The Nokta Simplex Lite gives a first-time buyer or a dry-land detectorist adding a waterproof backup a 4-mode VLF that drops to 16 feet, runs at 15 kHz with a 01-99 target ID, and weighs 2.6 lbs. Coming off a sub-$200 single-mode starter, this is the move into real ground balance, a finer ID scale, vibration alerts, and a coil that survives rain and surf.
Why Detectorists Step Up to the Simplex Lite
- Automatic and manual ground balance keep target IDs locked when you cross from black dirt into mineralized soil, so a 70 stays a 70.
- 30 sensitivity steps, finer than the three to five increments on most starter machines, let you dial in mineralization without losing depth on coin-sized targets.
- Notch discrimination on a 01-99 scale lets you mute the iron and pull-tab ranges instead of masking real targets behind a single shared discrim setting.
- IP68 submersible to 16 feet, in surf and rain, with no plastic bag over the control box.
- Vibration alert plus speaker and 1/4-inch headphone output, useful underwater and under wind noise on the bluff.

Field Use
Beach and Saltwater
Wet salt sand confuses single-frequency VLFs that ride on the wrong ground balance, and the result is broken IDs and chatter on every swing. The Simplex Lite's Beach mode and manual ground balance let us cancel saltwater noise and hold meaningful target IDs in the jewelry-conductor range. The IP68 housing tolerates being set down at the wave line and rinsed off at the truck.
- Mode: Beach
- Sensitivity: 18 to 22 in wet sand, 24 to 28 on dry
- Ground Balance: Manual, with tracking on in salt
- Discrimination: Open, with iron notched out only if trash density is high
Park Coin Hunting
Older parks bury coins under decades of foil and pull tabs. The 01-99 target ID and segment-based notch make it possible to drop only the pull-tab band and still catch nickels and small gold rings. The SX24 9.5" x 6" coil works the spaces between roots and bench legs without snagging.
- Mode: Park
- Sensitivity: 22 to 25 in moderate iron
- Ground Balance: Automatic on first ground-grab
- Discrimination: Notch out 30 to 50 (pull tabs), keep 12 to 18 (nickels)
Field and Old Homestead
Cellar holes and plowed fields run hot with iron. We run All Metal with iron audio off to keep ferrous tones quiet while still scoring iron-adjacent targets, then drop into Field for cleaner hunting in flagged spots.
- Mode: Field, switch to All Metal in iron-heavy zones
- Sensitivity: 20 to 24
- Ground Balance: Manual, re-grab every 30 minutes
- Discrimination: Iron audio off, leave non-ferrous open
Single-Frequency VLF, Done Cleanly
The Simplex Lite runs a single 15 kHz transmit frequency. That sits in the working range for silver coins and mid-conductor jewelry, with a clean response on small gold and copper relics. Frequency Shift moves the tone in small steps to dodge EMI from power lines and from other detectors at a group hunt. Notch discrimination is segment-based on the 01-99 scale, so trash brackets drop out cleanly without affecting nearby keepers. Auto ground balance handles most parks, manual covers iron-rich and saltwater terrain, and ground tracking keeps the balance moving as soil mineralization shifts through a hunt. Iron Audio Off lets us silence ferrous tones in heavy iron without losing All Metal depth, which is a setting most starter detectors do not expose to the user. Pinpoint mode is single-button, with a real-time signal strength reading that narrows large coil signals down to a dig-sized target.
Build, Display, and Audio
Aluminum and plastic shaft, retractable from 25 to 52 inches, with a balance point that holds 2.6 lbs at the grip without arm fade across a 4-hour hunt. The graphic LCD has a backlight, the keypad backlights for night and dim-light use, and a forward LED flashlight throws a usable beam onto the coil and the ground. Battery is a 2300 mAh built-in lithium pack, charged from any USB source or power bank.
Audio runs through a built-in speaker, a 6.3mm (1/4") wired headphone jack, and a vibration motor. The vibration alert is the feature that earns its keep underwater and in wind. Pair the detector with the Nokta AccuPOINT pinpointer for clean target recovery once the coil narrows the dig.
Coil Options
The SX24 9.5" x 6" DD ships standard. It is sized right for parks and most relic ground, with enough target separation in trashy spots to pick clean signals. The optional SX28 11" round DD covers more ground per swing on open beach and pasture and adds depth on coin-sized targets in cleaner soil. The optional SX35 13.5" x 12.5" DD reaches deeper on larger non-ferrous targets in low-trash sites, useful on plowed agricultural ground and old homestead pastures.

Why Buy the Nokta Simplex Lite from Serious Detecting
We are an authorized Nokta dealer, so the 3-year manufacturer warranty registers under your name from the day this Simplex Lite ships. Our team hunts the same machines we sell, so phone and chat support is staffed by working detectorists rather than call-center scripts. Free shipping on most orders over $99 in the lower 48 states applies, with 30-day returns and a price-match guarantee against any authorized US dealer. We also stock SX24, SX28, and SX35 replacement coils, the Nokta carbon-fiber lower shaft, screen protectors, and 2.4 GHz wireless headphones for the Simplex Lite, so when you grow the kit, the parts come from the same dealer that registered the warranty. For the next step up in the series, the Nokta Simplex Ultra adds wireless audio and higher transmit power, and we are happy to compare the two over the phone before you commit.
