Upgrade Your Nokta Simplex Ultra Metal Detector

The Nokta Simplex Ultra metal detector ships hunt-ready with the SX28 11-inch DD coil, a fully carbon fiber shaft that retracts to 63 cm (25 inches), Bluetooth wireless audio, IP68 submersibility to 5 meters (16 feet), and a 1.2 kg (2.6 lb) carry weight that runs comfortably for full-day sessions. The stock configuration handles most ground without fuss. The Simplex platform earns its reputation on how well it accepts targeted upgrades. We swap to the smaller SX24 (9.5 x 6 inch DD) coil to tighten target separation in iron-heavy parks. We mount the SX35 (13.5 x 12.5 inch DD) for extra depth on deep silver in open fields and dry beaches. We pair Nokta's wireless headphones for cable-free swing in brush country, and we carry a small pouch of wear parts (coil cable, coil cover, O-rings) to stay in the field when something fails. The categories worth attention are coils, audio, ergonomics, and the wear parts that keep the detector working past the first season.

Replacement & Upgrade Coils for the Nokta Simplex Series

The SX28 stock coil that ships with the Nokta Simplex Ultra is a balanced 11-inch DD: enough depth for general coin work, enough coverage for open ground. We swap to the SX24 (9.5 x 6 inch DD) for tot lots and trashy parks where a smaller footprint threads between iron and pulls coins that the SX28 would mask. We mount the SX35 (13.5 x 12.5 inch DD) in open relic fields and on dry beaches when we want every extra inch of depth on deep silver. All three are factory Nokta DD coils built for the new-generation Simplex platform and use the same coil connector across the line.

Cross-Compatibility Across the New Simplex Generation

The Simplex Lite, Simplex BT, and Simplex Ultra all run at 15 kHz and share the SX-series coil family. A coil bought for one fits the others without firmware changes or menu adjustments. A coil swap takes about 30 seconds in the field. Coils built for the older Nokta Makro Simplex+ ran at 12 kHz on a different coil family and are not cross-compatible with the new generation. Before ordering an aftermarket or used coil, confirm the listing names the 15 kHz Simplex Lite/BT/Ultra platform.

Headphones & Wireless Audio for the Simplex Ultra

Bluetooth wireless audio is built into the Simplex Ultra and the Simplex BT. Pairing with Nokta's dedicated wireless headphones is the cleanest path because they are tuned for low-latency operation, but the Ultra also pairs with most aptX Low Latency Bluetooth headsets. Wired headphones plug into the standard 1/8 inch (3.5 mm) jack and deliver zero-latency audio. We run wired in trashy sites where we are parsing two or three signals per swing because the dropped milliseconds on wireless can blur the audio signature on faint, deep targets. We run wireless on long open hunts where cable drag and brush snag are the bigger drag on stamina. The Simplex Lite does not have Bluetooth and uses wired audio only.

Shafts, Armrests & Carry Accessories

The Simplex Ultra ships with a fully carbon fiber shaft, so we are not chasing weight there. The upgrades that pay off on the Ultra are armrest cushions for long sessions, hip-mount harnesses that move the control box off the shaft and balance the rig like a pointer, and carry bags built around the Simplex form factor. We pack a small dry bag with a spare coil cable, coil cover, O-rings, and a battery cover, and a Simplex carry bag holds the lot plus the pinpointer and headphones. None of these are glamorous upgrades. All of them are the difference between cutting a hunt short at two hours and working through sunset.

Replacement Parts: Keeping Your Simplex in the Field

Coil cables fail first. They flex with every swing, and the connector at the control pod is the stress point. We carry a spare coil cable in the field bag and a backup in the truck. Coil covers take the abrasion from rocks, gravel, and roots; replace before the cover wears through to the coil winding. O-rings seal the battery compartment and accessory ports on the IP68-rated Simplex platform; saltwater and UV degrade them, so we replace annually if we hunt beaches or wade freshwater. Battery covers crack when over-torqued. Knob caps wear down after a few hundred adjustments. Stocking the wear items before they fail is the difference between a productive Saturday and a drive home with a dead detector.

Nokta Simplex Model Guide: Ultra, BT & Lite – Which Accessories Fit?

The new-generation Simplex line is three models: the Simplex Lite, Simplex BT, and Simplex Ultra. All three run at 15 kHz, share the SX-series coil family, ship with IP68 submersibility to 5 meters (16 feet), and use the same 1/8 inch (3.5 mm) wired headphone jack. Bluetooth wireless audio lives on the BT and Ultra; the Lite is wired only. Search-mode counts climb across the line: Lite has 4 modes (Field, Park, Beach, All Metal), BT has 5 (Field, Park 1, Park 2, Beach, All Metal), and Ultra has 6 (Field, Park, 4 Tone, 99 Tone, Beach, All Metal). The Ultra adds the Coin & Relic ID Scale, Target ID Depth, and the variable tone break, frequency, and volume controls that experienced detectorists use to fine-tune audio.

The previous-generation Nokta Makro Simplex+ runs at a different operating frequency (12 kHz) on a separate coil family. New-Gen SX-series coils will not work on a Simplex+, and Simplex+ coils will not work on the Lite, BT, or Ultra. When ordering coils for an older Simplex+, verify the listing names that model specifically.
