Minelab GO-FIND 66 Metal Detector

The Minelab GO-FIND 66 is the top of Minelab's GO-FIND family, and it is the model we hand to detectorists who want serious detection performance in a package that travels well and learns fast. At 2.3 lbs (1.06 kg), it is the lightest high-performance detector available. The fold-down shaft drops the unit to 21.9 inches collapsed, so it slips into a backpack, a car boot, or a closet shelf. There is nothing to assemble and no loose parts to misplace. Pull it out, extend, switch on, swing.

Inside the Minelab GO-FIND 66

The GO-FIND 66 was built around one idea: deliver Minelab-grade detection technology in a chassis a beginner can master in an afternoon. Below is the full breakdown of what the 66 does, how each feature plays in the field, and where it fits against the rest of the Minelab catalog.

Treasure View: See the Target Before You Dig

Treasure View is the LED panel across the top of the control housing. Iron trash like nails and bottle caps lights it red. Coins, rings, and other non-iron targets light it green. Combined with the four-tone audio system, your eyes and ears reach the same conclusion at the same moment, which is the fastest way to make dig-or-walk decisions in the field.

The four tones break down as follows:

  • Low tone for iron and ferrous trash
  • Mid-1 tone for lower-conductivity non-iron items like foil and small aluminum
  • Mid-2 tone for higher-value mid-conductive metals (a feature unique to the 66 within the GO-FIND lineup)
  • High tone for high-conductivity targets like silver coins

Find Modes, Sensitivity, and Depth

The GO-FIND 66 ships with four preset Find Modes that take the guesswork out of discrimination settings. Each mode applies a different filter pattern so you can match the detector to the site without spending time in menus. Five sensitivity levels let you tune the response to local conditions: crank it up at clean inland parks for maximum depth on small targets, pull it back at the beach, in highly mineralized soil, or near power lines where stable, quiet operation matters more than reach.

The four-bar depth indicator gives you a read on how deep the target is sitting before you dig. Combine that with Pinpoint Mode and you can place your shovel within an inch or two of the target, which saves time and protects the turf at parks and yards where neat recovery matters.

Easy-Trak Automatic Ground Balance

Easy-Trak is Minelab's automatic ground-tracking system. It continuously adjusts the detector to the soil under your coil, reducing false signals from mineralization and keeping target tones clean. There is no manual ground balance procedure to learn, which is one less thing standing between a new owner and finds in the bag.

GO-FIND App and Free Pro App Access

The 66 connects to the free GO-FIND smartphone app over Bluetooth. The app gives you remote viewing of detector information, instant identification of common coins, and the ability to mark every find on Google Maps so you can rebuild a record of where the good stuff came out of the ground. Pro App access is included with the 66 at no additional cost, and that is one of the spec-sheet items that justifies the step up from the 44. Pro features include custom tones, advanced settings, and richer data tracking. If you take notes after every hunt, you will use this.

Build, Power, and Travel

Collapsed length is 21.9 inches (555 mm), and that is the number that wins customers over once they handle the unit. It fits inside a daypack with the coil cover protecting the search head, and we have customers who travel with the GO-FIND 66 in carry-on luggage. Extended, the shaft reaches 51.4 inches (1305 mm), which suits adult users from short to tall, and the design lets younger detectorists handle it comfortably as well.

The 10-inch waterproof search coil lets you scan beach sand and shallow surf without worrying about splashes or wet grass after a rain. The control box is not waterproof, so the unit is built for land and shoreline detecting, not full submersion.

Power comes from four AA batteries, which deliver roughly 15 to 20 hours of typical detecting per set. We tell people to keep a spare four-pack of lithium AAs in the side pocket of the bag, and the 66 will run all weekend without a charger in sight.

Who Should Buy the GO-FIND 66

We recommend the GO-FIND 66 if any of the following sounds like you:

  • A first detector buyer who does not want to feel boxed in after six months
  • A traveler or hiker who wants real performance in a backpack-friendly package
  • A parent or grandparent buying a detector that an adult and a younger user can both run
  • A coin and jewelry hunter working manicured parks, schoolyards, and dry beach
  • A returning detectorist who wants a light, simple second machine to grab when the main rig stays home

For deep-water beach hunting or competitive gold prospecting, we would point you to a different family in the Minelab catalog. For most everything else on the lighter end of the hobby, the 66 is the GO-FIND model we hand to people first.

Buying the GO-FIND 66 from Serious Detecting

We are an authorized Minelab dealer, so every GO-FIND 66 leaves our shop with full factory warranty coverage and access to Minelab's U.S. service network. We pack and ship the same day on most in-stock orders, and our team detects with this gear, so questions before or after the sale go to people who actually run the machines. If you are choosing between the GO-FIND 22, 44, and 66, or comparing the 66 to a Vanquish or X-Terra Pro, send us a message. We are happy to help you land on the right detector for the sites you actually hunt.
