Why Add the EQX 15 Coil

The Equinox 900's stock 11 in coil is the all-rounder and the 6 in coil is for trash and tight spots; the EQX 15 is the third piece, for the days when the site is big and the targets are deep. A 15 x 12 in Double-D footprint covers noticeably more ground per sweep across pasture, plowed fields and open beach, and reaches deeper on coin-sized and larger targets than the 11 in. It is a Smart Coil, so the detector recognizes it automatically, it is waterproof to the same 5 m (16 ft) as the rest of the machine, and it swaps onto the lower rod with no tools. Run it in Field 2 or Beach 1 with Recovery Speed a step lower than you would use with the 11 in, and expect a little less separation in dense iron; that is what the 6 in coil is still in the box for.

Why Add the Backpack

With three coils, headphones and a charger, the Equinox 900 stops being a grab-and-go machine unless everything has a place. Minelab's detector backpack has a padded 23 x 12 in main compartment that takes the Equinox 900 collapsed to 24 in with a coil fitted, elastic straps to hold the spare coils and headphones, and a rear flap pocket for the digger and finds. Padded adjustable shoulder straps carry it comfortably on a hike-in to a site.

About the Equinox 900 Itself

The Equinox 900 runs Minelab's Multi-IQ simultaneous multi-frequency engine with six single frequencies (4, 5, 10, 15, 20 and 40 kHz) on top, a 119-segment target ID scale, Iron Bias and Recovery Speed controls, eight search profiles across park, field, beach and gold, and an IP68 rating to 5 m (16 ft). It weighs 1.27 kg (2.8 lbs) and collapses to 61 cm (24 in).
