The Minelab X-TERRA ELITE brings true simultaneous multi-frequency detecting to a fully waterproof, 2.9 lb package. Multi-IQ runs several frequencies at once, so coins, jewelry, and relics all register at full strength instead of forcing you to pick one frequency per hunt. It is rated IP68 to 16 ft (5 m), carries 119 target ID segments, and supports Minelab's Low Latency Wireless Audio, with three search modes that each hold two custom profiles. Headphones are not included with this listing; if you want a wired set in the box, see our X-TERRA ELITE with Wired Headphones.
What You Gain Stepping Up to the X-TERRA ELITE
- Multi-IQ simultaneous multi-frequency: The same core technology as the Equinox series. Low and high frequencies run together, so a thin gold ring and a deep silver coin both respond on one sweep, and wet salt sand stays quiet in Beach mode.
- Three search modes, six saved profiles: Park, Field, and Beach, each with two custom profiles, so you can keep a quiet trashy-park setup and a hot open-field setup on the same machine.
- 119-segment target ID with Iron Bias: Ferrous IDs run –19 to 0, non-ferrous 1 to 99. Iron Bias (–1 to 2) lets you decide how aggressively bottle caps and rusty iron are pushed into the ferrous range.
- Full ground balance control: Automatic, manual, and tracking ground balance plus automatic noise cancel, which the entry-level X-TERRA PRO does not offer in full.
- Waterproof to 16 ft: IP68 control pod and coil, with a waterproof cap on the headphone socket. Wade, snorkel, or detect in the rain without a second thought.
- Audio your way: 1, 2, 5, All Tones, and Depth audio modes, 25 volume levels, built-in speaker, 3.5 mm wired jack, and Low Latency Wireless Audio for Minelab wireless headphones.
- Built for low light: Control pod flashlight, red backlit display, backlit keypad, and handgrip vibration, so the hunt does not end at sunset.

Field Use
Parks and Sports Fields
Park mode with 5 Tones or All Tones and Iron Bias at 1 or 2 keeps modern trash sorted. Watch the 119-segment ID: clad coins cluster in the high 70s to 90s, while pull tabs and can slaw scatter through the 40s and 50s. Run sensitivity at 20 to 22 and back off only if EMI creeps in.
- Mode: Park 1
- Tones: 5 or All Tones
- Iron Bias: 1–2
- Ground Balance: Automatic
Farm Fields and Relic Sites
Field mode is tuned for mineralized soil and mixed iron. Drop Iron Bias to 0 or –1 to hear masked non-ferrous targets sitting next to nails, and use tracking ground balance on ground that changes across the field. Depth audio helps you decide which faint signals are worth a deep hole.
- Mode: Field 1 or 2
- Tones: 2 or All Tones
- Iron Bias: –1 to 0
- Ground Balance: Tracking
Beach, Wet Sand, and Shallow Water
Beach mode handles wet salt sand and surf with Multi-IQ, where single-frequency machines fall apart. The IP68 rating covers wading and shallow-water hunting to 16 ft. Pair it with a sand scoop and you have a complete beach setup for far less than a dedicated dive detector.
- Mode: Beach 1 (dry and wet sand), Beach 2 (in the water)
- Tones: 2 or 5
- Iron Bias: 0
- Ground Balance: Automatic
X-TERRA ELITE vs. X-TERRA PRO vs. Equinox 700
The X-TERRA PRO switches between single frequencies; the ELITE runs Multi-IQ simultaneous multi-frequency, which is the difference on wet salt beaches and in mineralized ground. The ELITE shares its coil family and Multi-IQ core with the Equinox line at a lower price, with three modes instead of four and without the Equinox's higher-end ground and recovery controls. For most coin, jewelry, and relic hunters it is the value pick in our multi-frequency detector collection.
Build, Battery, and Audio
The ELITE weighs 1.3 kg (2.9 lbs) and collapses from 54 in to 25 in for a car trunk or backpack. The internal 3.7 V / 5100 mAh lithium-ion battery charges over USB and runs all day. Audio comes through the built-in speaker, the 3.5 mm headphone socket under its waterproof cap, or Low Latency Wireless Audio to compatible Minelab wireless headphones (sold separately). The V12X 12x9 in Double-D coil is waterproof and ships with a skid plate; optional V8X and V10X coils let you tune the machine for trashy ground or extra coverage.
