The Minelab VANQUISH 460 brings Multi-IQ simultaneous multi-frequency performance to a machine priced under $400, and that changes the practical calculation for anyone running a single-frequency detector. Multi-IQ transmits and receives across multiple frequencies simultaneously, producing target IDs that stay locked as ground conditions shift underfoot, with no frequency switching and no manual ground balance routines. Minelab backs the VANQUISH 460 with a three-year manufacturer warranty, and we carry it as an authorized US dealer with free shipping on every order.
What You Gain Coming from a Single-Frequency Machine
- Target IDs that hold as ground conditions change. Multi-IQ processes multiple frequencies at once, so the 460's target ID scale stays stable from dry soil to wet beach sand without any user correction.
- A 30-segment discrimination scale instead of a basic notch or dial. The 460 lets you isolate specific target ranges precisely, notching coins in while blocking pull tabs and bottle caps.
- Iron Bias control with three adjustment levels. Suppress false signals from ferrous targets without blanking out non-ferrous targets sitting alongside them in dense iron ground.
- Full IP68 waterproofing to 5 meters (16 feet). The entire detector is submersible, opening freshwater wading, wet beach surf zones, and rain hunting without concern about equipment damage.
- Four dedicated search modes for distinct terrain types. Beach, Park, Field, and a customizable User Profile let you switch setups in seconds rather than manually adjusting multiple settings each time you move sites.
- Handgrip vibration and Bluetooth LE Audio output. Tactile target alerts and low-latency Bluetooth LE Audio with the LC3 codec supplement wired headphone use across all hunt environments.

Field Use: How the VANQUISH 460 Performs on Real Sites
Parks, Schoolyards, and Permission Ground
The 460's 30-segment discrimination scale and three Iron Bias levels give you the tools to suppress ferrous noise while staying open to coins and silver sitting in the same layer. Park mode handles medium-trashy sites reliably out of the box, and the User Profile slot saves your adjustments for a specific site.
- Mode: Park
- Sensitivity: 5 to 7 (reduce in high-EMI environments or heavily mineralized ground)
- Iron Bias: Level 2 for moderate trash; Level 1 for very dense iron
- Discrimination: Start by notching out segments below 5, then tune upward as site conditions require
Beach and Wet Sand Hunting
Saltwater beaches are where single-frequency machines struggle most. Multi-IQ handles saltwater ground conditions without frequency switching, and the 460's Beach mode is tuned specifically for wet and dry sand. The IP68 waterproof rating means the entire machine goes into the surf line without concern, and handgrip vibration supplements audio in surf noise environments.
- Mode: Beach
- Sensitivity: 4 to 6 in wet salt sand; adjust up on dry sand
- Iron Bias: Level 1 or 2 depending on bottle cap density in the area
- Discrimination: Run conservative notching to avoid masking gold rings that can read in the lower-ferrous overlap zone
Fields and Open Relic Ground
The V10X 10" x 7" coil handles depth and coverage efficiently on open ground. Field mode runs with broader discrimination settings suited to sites where iron trash is sparse and depth on coin-sized or relic targets is the priority. Mid-to-high sensitivity is the right starting point for plowed farmland, old cellar holes, and open permission property.
- Mode: Field
- Sensitivity: 7 to 10 (adjust down only if ground noise becomes erratic)
- Iron Bias: Level 3 to reduce deep iron interference in ferrous-heavy ground
- Discrimination: Run a low notch setting to stay open to deep targets; tighten segments only if surface iron noise is unmanageable

Multi-IQ Technology and Iron Bias
Multi-IQ is Minelab's simultaneous multi-frequency technology. Rather than cycling through individual frequencies sequentially, it broadcasts and processes multiple frequencies at the same time, producing target IDs from a richer dataset than any single frequency provides. Discrimination stays more stable as soil conductivity changes, with no frequency selection to manage and no ground balance routine to run at site entry. The difference shows most on mineralized beaches as the tide shifts or when crossing from dry soil into a wet low spot: where a single-frequency machine starts reading inconsistently, the 460's target IDs hold. Iron Bias works alongside discrimination to address ferrous targets that report a non-ferrous reading because of shape or orientation. Three levels increase the detector's skepticism toward borderline ferrous signals: Level 1 for moderate iron density, Level 2 as a general trashy-park default, and Level 3 for the most iron-saturated sites.
Build, Display, and Audio
The VANQUISH 460 weighs 1.16 kg (2.6 lbs) and telescopes from 79 cm (31 inches) collapsed to 142 cm (56 inches) extended. The backlit LCD display presents target ID number, search mode, sensitivity level, depth gauge, discrimination scale with live target cursor, and battery status at a glance. Both display and keypad are backlit for low-light sessions, and a built-in flashlight on the control housing adds visibility for pre-dawn starts. Audio routes through a built-in loudspeaker, wired 3.5 mm headphone jack, or Bluetooth LE Audio with the LC3 codec. Volume adjusts across 10 levels; three target tones (Low, Mid, High) give audio cues that distinguish ferrous from mid-range from high-conductors. Handgrip vibration provides tactile target feedback in any audio output mode.
Coil Options
The included V10X 10" x 7" Double-D Elliptical coil provides solid detection depth on coin-sized targets and covers ground efficiently across parks, fields, and beach work. The Double-D design distributes ground coverage across the full sweep arc, and the coil carries the same IP68 waterproof rating as the control housing. Replacement V10X coils are available if a backup is needed. Two optional upgrade coils work with the 460: the V8X 8" x 5" Double-D for tight, trash-dense sites, and the V12X 12" x 9" Double-D for maximizing coverage and depth on wide open fields or beaches.
