XP XTREM Hunter Metal Detector — Extreme Depth, Dual - Coil Detection

Experience unmatched depth and detection power with the XP XTREM HUNTER Metal Detector—XP’s most advanced system for locating large, deeply buried treasures. Built on the DEUS II platform, it combines XP’s lightning-fast recovery speed with specialized dual-coil technology to detect large targets at extreme depths while maintaining exceptional stability in challenging ground conditions. Whether you’re searching for relics, caches, or buried hoards, the XTREM HUNTER delivers professional-grade results with ease.

The XP XTREM Hunter metal detector is XP's 2-Box deep seeking system built on the DEUS II FMF platform and engineered to reach high-mass targets at depths up to 5 meters (16 feet). Works well on cache sites, deep relic ground, and large-target utility work where standard FMF coils run out of depth long before the target ends. This collection holds the complete XTREM Hunter kit, the upgrade kit for hunters who already own a DEUS II remote, and the compatible accessories we stock in the United States. Orders over $99 ship free across the continental US.

What Is the XP XTREM Hunter Metal Detector?

The XP XTREM Hunter metal detector is XP's 2-Box deep seeking attachment for the DEUS II. It uses two large coils, the XTR115TX transmit and the XTR115RX receive, running XP's Fast Multi Frequency (FMF) platform across six frequencies (45, 35, 28, 21, 15, and 7 kHz) at the same time. The system pairs with the standard DEUS II remote control, and the wireless headphones and standard FMF coils that work with a DEUS II carry over directly to the XTREM Hunter without any additional pairing hardware.

The XTREM Hunter shares processing, audio, and menu architecture with the DEUS II, but the 2-Box geometry is purpose-built for high-mass targets at depth. We have run it alongside a standard DEUS II in the field, and the difference in how each machine handles a buried cache, a large iron implement, or a deep utility line is immediate. Hunters who already own a DEUS II can buy the XTREM Hunter as an upgrade kit and pair it to their existing remote in seconds.

Who Should Hunt with the XTREM Hunter?

We sell the XTREM Hunter to two distinct groups. First, experienced cache hunters and relic hunters working sites with documented deep targets, colonial-era homesteads, battlefield iron concentrations, and large buried hoards. Second, professionals doing utility, archaeological, or industrial work who need to locate tanks, pipes, and large metal infrastructure beyond the reach of a standard VLF coil. Both audiences have one thing in common: they already know the kind of target they are after, and they need depth more than they need fine target separation.

We do not recommend the XTREM Hunter as a coin shooter, beach machine, or general-purpose detector. The 2-Box geometry trades small-target sensitivity for depth on large objects. Hunters who work trashy parks or modern beaches, are better served by a standard DEUS II with a 9-inch or 11-inch FMF coil. The XTREM Hunter earns its place when the target is large, deep, and already known to be on site.

FMF Technology and the 2-Box Coil Design

The XTREM Hunter runs XP's Fast Multi Frequency (FMF) platform across six frequencies operating simultaneously through the 2-Box coil set. Running multiple frequencies at once gives the detector cleaner separation between target signal and ground signal, which is what allows the system to maintain stability in mineralized soils that would force a single-frequency machine into aggressive ground balance settings. EMI noise cancel runs across 14 channels in auto or manual mode.

The 2-Box configuration uses a large transmit coil paired with a separate receive coil in a fixed geometry. This generates a detection field with a wider footprint and stronger field strength at depth than a single-coil setup of equivalent size could produce. Compared to a 13-by-11-inch FMF coil on a standard DEUS II, the XTREM Hunter sees deeper on large mass and naturally rejects small surface targets like nails. We trade coin-level precision for detection range that VLF single-coil designs cannot match.

XP also built iron rejection (IAR) and adjustable autotune into the XTREM Hunter menu, so we can dial out moderate-sized ferrous trash where it gets in the way. Iron handling on this generation is a step ahead of legacy two-box deep seekers, and that is one of the practical reasons we recommend the XTREM Hunter over older deep-seeking architectures.

DEUS II Platform Inheritance

The XTREM Hunter uses the standard DEUS II remote control, the same XP wireless audio protocol, and the same WSAII-XL, WSALX ST, WSAII ST, WSAII, WS6 and WS6 ST headphone family. The remote recognizes the XTREM Hunter as a separate "coil" in the menu structure and presents the dedicated XTREM Hunter parameters automatically when paired (sensitivity, reactivity, adjustable autotune, audio threshold, IAR, audio response, frequency scan, ground balance, and a 4-second recording option). Switching from the XTREM Hunter back to a standard DEUS II FMF coil takes seconds in the menu.

For hunters already running a DEUS II, this matters. The upgrade-kit version is a coil-and-stem assembly that drops into an existing wireless ecosystem at a lower cost than the full kit. We pair the XTREM Hunter with the XP MI-6 pinpointer for target recovery on deep dig sites where a buried cache may sit several feet below grade.

Field Performance: Depth, Discrimination, and Ground Conditions

We have tested the XTREM Hunter on sites where standard FMF coils on a DEUS II would not see a target, and the difference is measurable. Large iron concentrations, cast-iron implements, buried caches, and utility infrastructure produce repeatable, ground-balanced signals at depths well past the working range of any single-coil VLF. The manufacturer's 5-meter (16-foot) figure refers to detection on very large-mass targets in cooperative ground. Real-world depth on cache-scale objects in moderate mineralization regularly clears 3 to 6 feet, which is where most deep cache work actually happens.

Discrimination on this machine is honest. Iron rejection (IAR) handles moderate ferrous trash, and the system naturally ignores small ferrous targets like nails. It will not pull a single coin out of a clustered hot zone or separate two close targets the way a 9-inch coil does. We tell buyers up front: this is a depth tool, not a separation tool, and it should sit in the kit alongside a standard DEUS II rather than replace one.

Ground conditions matter. The 2-Box geometry handles moderate mineralization well thanks to FMF processing, but heavily magnetic soils such as iron-rich red clay, volcanic black sand, and mineralized desert caliche will compress depth performance. Manual ground balance is available in the menu, and we recommend running a balance pass on each new site before committing to a full sweep. The XTREM Hunter coil set is weatherproof against rain and dirty conditions but is not designed for submersion. The WSAII-XL and WSAXL ST headphones are IP68 rated for hunters working in heavy weather.

XP XTREM Hunter Configurations

The XP XTREM Hunter metal detector ships in two configurations. The complete kit includes the XTR115TX and XTR115RX FMF coils, the DEUS II remote control, WSAII-XL waterproof headphones, the included XP carry case, and the S-telescopic stem. The upgrade kit includes the coil set, stem, and case for hunters who already own a DEUS II remote and headphones. Both configurations carry XP's 5-year warranty on parts and labor (batteries and connectors are warranted for 2 years).

The system runs on a single Li-ion 18650 battery (11 Wh, ~4-hour USB-C charge, more than 10 hours of detecting per charge). Assembled length is 1.20 m (3.94 ft). With remote, total weight is 2.9 kg (6.4 lb), which keeps hunt sessions manageable for a 2-Box machine. Total weight in the included XP case is 5.8 kg (12.8 lb). The XP 280 backpack is sold separately for hunters who walk long distances to remote sites.
