XP XTREM Hunter Metal Detector Overview
The XP XTREM Hunter is XP's 2-Box deep seeking system for the DEUS II. A front coil (XTR115TX) carries the wireless transmitter and battery, and a back coil (XTR115RX) connects by cable, both mounted on the XTR-STEM frame. It runs on XP's Fast Multi Frequency (FMF) platform, and XP gives the XTR115's highest fundamental frequency as 7.35 kHz. XP's figure is detection of up to 5 m (16 ft) on large targets, and XP names large relics and underground objects such as tanks and metal pipes. The system is naturally insensitive to small targets like nails and can discriminate some moderate-sized ferrous objects. It pairs with the XP DEUS II remote control as a new coil (remote software 2.0 or higher). One 18650 Li-ion battery (11 Wh) gives more than 10 hours of use and charges in about 4 hours over USB-C. Assembled length is 1.20 m (3.94 ft), weight is 2.9 kg (6.4 lb) with the remote and 5.8 kg (12.8 lb) in the rain and shock proof XP case. XP covers it for 5 years parts and labor, with 2 years on batteries and connectors.
XTREM Hunter vs a DEUS II with a Standard Coil: Which Should You Buy?
These are tools for different targets. An XP DEUS II with a 9 inch, 11 inch or 13 x 11 inch FMF coil is built for coins, jewelry and ordinary relics, with full discrimination and target ID. The XTREM Hunter trades that small-target sensitivity for depth on large metal masses: it will not pull a coin out of a trashy park or separate two close targets the way a standard coil does.
Choose the XTREM Hunter when the target is large, deep and you have reason to believe it is on the site: a buried metal container, a substantial iron relic or an old metal structure on a historical property. We would choose it for the size of the targets you are after rather than for the advertised maximum depth, because 5 m is a maximum for a large metal mass, not a promise for every object. Since both run from the same remote, the XTREM Hunter belongs in the kit alongside a standard DEUS II coil rather than replacing one.

XTREM Hunter Settings That Matter in the Field
Once paired, the DEUS II remote switches to a dedicated XTREM Hunter menu. Sensitivity runs 0 to 99 (default 85), Reactivity 1 to 3 (default 1), Discri IAR OFF to 5, Threshold 0 to 20, Auto Tune OFF to 3 and Audio Response 1 to 4, with Grab or Manual ground balance from 59 to 95 (factory setting 87), a 14 channel frequency shift with automatic scan, Square or Pulse audio, and a 4 second signal recording with Play/Pause. XP's advice is to start every session with an automatic noise cancel scan to find the most stable channel.
The lower you set Reactivity, the slower you should walk; the low setting gives the best depth, and a higher one helps pin down a target's position. To confirm a target, XP's method is to set Auto Tune to OFF, retune and move slowly over the spot. Signal strength helps estimate depth and signal duration helps estimate size. If the XTREM Hunter is unstable, XP suggests lowering Sensitivity to 60 to 70, setting Audio Response to 1 and raising the coils with the handle.
Where the XTREM Hunter Works Best and Its Limits
The XTREM Hunter works best held horizontal over open ground on large properties, away from industrial areas, houses and power lines. It detects accurately only on its bottom (ground) side, so never pass a test target over the top, and XP warns against tilting it on its side during tests. Take off metal items such as shoes with metal shanks, phones, belt buckles and keys before you start.
XP says its construction withstands rain and challenging conditions but gives no submersion rating, so treat it as weatherproof only. It is not a coin, jewelry or small gold detector. A strong signal several feet down could be a large iron object, buried infrastructure or another metal mass, and the XTREM Hunter cannot tell you which, so we would never excavate on its signal alone: follow utility locating procedures and check permissions before digging. XP suggests switching to a standard DEUS II coil, for example in the Relic program, to confirm targets at moderate depth.
