Teknetics Eurotek Pro Overview

The Teknetics Eurotek Pro runs a single 7.81 kHz VLF frequency in a motion Discrimination mode, with a Pinpoint mode that works with the coil held still. Target IDs run from 1 to 99, and iron reads at the low end of the scale. Fe-Tone sets the volume of iron signals apart from non-ferrous signals, and V-Break moves the point where the tone changes. The Eurotek Pro has a preset ground setting with no user adjustment, so there is no ground setting to learn. Sensitivity runs from 1 to 10 (7 by default), and the 5-segment depth bar shows more bars for a deeper object. It weighs 2 lb 6 oz (1.08 kg), or 2 lb 10 oz (1.19 kg) with the 11 inch DD coil. Battery life is 20 to 25 hours from one 9V alkaline battery. First Texas lists a 2-year limited warranty.

Eurotek Pro vs. Gamma 6000: Which Should You Buy?

The Eurotek Pro and the Gamma 6000 are both light single-frequency VLF detectors with a numeric target ID, a depth indicator, a 9V battery with 20 to 25 hours of life, and the 11 inch DD coil in our packages. The Gamma 6000 adds Ground Grab automatic and manual ground balance, an All Metal mode and a mineralization scale. The Eurotek Pro keeps a fixed ground setting and adds V-Break, which moves the point where the high tone starts. Fe-Tone sets the iron volume on the Eurotek Pro, while the Gamma 6000 gives iron its own bass tone.

If your ground is mild and your sites are full of nails, we recommend the Eurotek Pro. If you hunt mineralized soil, or want an All Metal mode for deep, faint targets, step up to the Gamma 6000.

Key Features That Matter in the Field

Fe-Tone and V-Break are the two controls to learn first. Fe-Tone sets the volume of iron signals on its own, so you still hear a nail, just quieter than a coin, and you keep the information without the fatigue. In the Eurotek Pro manual, Target IDs 70 to 79 give VCO tones and IDs above 79 give a high tone; when the discrimination setting goes above 69, it becomes the V-Break point that decides where the high tone starts. Discrimination can eliminate Target IDs from 1 to 69, so you choose how much of the low end you hear.

The Eurotek Pro manual describes a very fast target response, which helps when a coin lies close to iron. Coil motion is needed in Discrimination mode, so keep a steady sweep. The 5-segment depth bar is a guide for coin-sized objects, with more bars for a deeper target.

Where the Eurotek Pro Works Best and Its Limits

The Eurotek Pro fits general-purpose coin shooting, relic hunting and jewelry, the uses First Texas lists for it. Its fixed ground setting suits mild park, yard and field soil. On heavily mineralized ground, black sand or wet salt sand, a fixed setting cannot follow the ground, so we recommend the Gamma 6000 or a multi-frequency detector there. The control box is not weatherproof, so keep it out of the rain. There is no All Metal mode and no backlight. Add a pinpointer for faster recovery in iron-heavy holes.

Eurotek vs. Eurotek Pro: Check Coil Fit

The original Teknetics Eurotek and the Eurotek Pro take different coils, so read the fit line on each coil listing before you order. For the Eurotek Pro, our listings show these fit: the Teknetics 11 inch DD elliptical coil, the Teknetics 5 inch round DD coil, the CORS Detonation 13 x 14 inch DD and the CORS Fire 15 inch DD in their Teknetics versions. These also fit the Greek series detectors.

For the original Eurotek, these fit: the Teknetics 11 inch DD black coil with the plug-in connector (it will not work on the Eurotek Pro), the Teknetics 10 inch elliptical coil, the CORS Detonation 13 x 14 inch DD for the Eurotek, the CORS Fire 15 inch DD for the Eurotek and the Mars Lion 7 inch DD.
