Quest Q40 Metal Detector

The Quest Q40 is a lightweight turn-on-and-go VLF detector with a built-in rechargeable battery, backlit LCD, water-resistant control box and a waterproof Raptor TurboD 11x9 in wide scan coil. Out of the box it ships hunt-ready: Wirefree Lite wireless headphones, corded backup headphones, rain cover, arm strap, USB charging cable, coil cover and a 2-year warranty are all in the carton. This page collects Q40 detectors, the loaded Q40 Pack with a second Blade coil, and the compatible coils and covers that keep it running.

A Complete Kit Straight Out of the Box

Most detectors at this level ship as a bare machine and a coil. The Q40 arrives with wireless headphones, a rain cover, corded backup headphones and an arm strap already included, and the Q40 Pack adds a Blade 9.5x5.5 in coil with cover, a camo pouch and a hat on top. For a new hunter that removes the accessory shopping list before the first outing; for an experienced one it is a ready-made spares pool for a beater machine that gets thrown in the truck.

Q40 or Q30: Pick by Where You Hunt

The Q40 pairs a water-resistant console with fully waterproof coils, so rain, wet grass and creek-edge hunting are fine, but it is not a submersible detector. If you plan to put the whole machine under water, the Quest Q30 is the one rated to 5 meters. On dry land the Q40's light swing weight, backlit display and built-in rechargeable battery make it the easier machine to run all day.

Coils Shared Across the Quest Q and X Series

The Q40 uses the same TurboD coil family as the Q20, X5 and X10: the Blade 9.5x5.5 in for separation in trashy sites, the Raptor 11x9.5 in all-rounder, and the Beast 13x9 in DD for open-ground coverage. All are epoxy-filled and waterproof. Browse the wider Quest lineup, or pick up covers and digging gear in parts and accessories.
