Nokta FINDX Pro Metal Detector Overview

The Nokta FINDX Pro runs a single 15 kHz operating frequency with Field, Park, Beach and Jewelry search modes, a 0 to 99 target ID, notch discrimination, pinpoint, a depth indicator, five sensitivity levels and five volume levels. The whole detector, system box and SX28 11 inch DD coil included, is IP68 rated and submersible to 5 m (16 ft). It weighs 1.2 kg (2.6 lb), adjusts from 63 to 132 cm (25 to 52 inch) on an aluminum and plastic shaft, and has a graphic mono LCD with backlight and a keypad backlight. Nokta gives the built-in 2300 mAh lithium battery an average of 12 hours per charge, and its manual gives about 3 hours to charge over USB or from a power bank. The box holds the detector, the SX28 coil with cover, wired headphones, a 6.3 mm (1/4 inch) headphone adapter, a premium digger, the USB charging cable and a carrying bag. FINDX Pro vs. Simplex LITE: Which Should You Buy?

The FINDX Pro and the Simplex LITE are both fully waterproof 15 kHz detectors at 2.6 lb with the same 2300 mAh battery and the same SX coil family. The FINDX Pro keeps the controls to a minimum: five sensitivity levels preset for each mode, no ground balance to set, a Jewelry mode with four tones, and headphones, a digger and a bag in the box. The Simplex LITE adds 30 sensitivity levels, automatic and manual ground balance and an All Metal mode, lists frequency shift, vibration and an LED flashlight, which Nokta does not list for the FINDX Pro, and comes with the smaller SX24 9.5 x 6 inch coil and a 6.3 mm adapter. Nokta covers the Simplex LITE for 3 years and the FINDX Pro for 2 years.

In our experience the FINDX Pro suits a first detector, parks, yards, freshwater beaches and casual coin and jewelry hunting. We would not recommend it just because accessories come in the box, though: the detector itself is fully waterproof and offers target identification, pinpointing and four search modes. Choose the Simplex LITE if you want to learn ground balance and fine-tune sensitivity as you go.

Key Features That Matter in the Field

Each search mode has its own tone pattern in Nokta's manual. Park mode, designed for coins and jewelry in urban areas and parks, uses three tones: low for iron IDs 01 to 14, medium for gold and non-ferrous IDs 15 to 41 and high for 42 to 99. Field mode is recommended for relic hunting and gives a low tone for iron and a rising tone for non-ferrous targets as the coil nears them. Beach mode is built for conductive ground such as wet salty sand and notches out IDs 0 to 15 by default. Jewelry mode, which the plain FINDX does not have, splits targets into four tones: low for 0 to 14, medium for 15 to 70, medium-high for 71 to 80 and high for 81 to 99. Sensitivity has five levels and is preset for each mode, and each mode keeps its own setting. We encourage beginners to dig a variety of repeatable signals while learning, because that is how you find out how real objects respond.

Where the FINDX Pro Works Best and Its Limits

The FINDX Pro works well in parks, yards, schoolyards and freshwater swimming areas, and the IP68 rating lets you wade or submerge the whole detector to 5 m (16 ft). The headphones in the box are not waterproof, so for underwater hunting use Nokta's Nokta Waterproof Headphones, which Nokta lists for the FINDX Pro. The FINDX Pro has no wireless audio. Do not take the FINDX Pro under water while a power bank is connected, and after salt water, rinse the system box, shaft and coil with tap water, as Nokta's manual asks. Beach mode is built for wet salty sand, but Nokta's manual warns that the coil may give false signals going into and coming out of the water and when you move between wet and dry sand, so keep the coil either in or out of the water; for freshwater beaches we think the FINDX Pro is a reasonable choice, and for regular wet ocean sand we recommend a simultaneous multi-frequency detector such as the Nokta Score. A handheld pinpointer is often one of the first accessories we recommend.

FINDX Pro vs. the Plain FINDX

Nokta also makes the plain FINDX on the same 15 kHz platform, weight, battery and shaft. Its FX28 11 inch coil is waterproof to 1 m (3.3 ft), but its system box is not waterproof, it has Field, Park and Beach modes without Jewelry, and its box holds headphones, a standard digger and a carrying bag. Nokta lists three waterproof DD coils for the FINDX Pro: the SX24 9.5 x 6 inch for trashy ground, the SX28 11 inch that ships with it, and the SX35 13.5 x 12.5 inch for open fields, each with a matching coil cover. The same SX coils fit the Simplex LITE and the Simplex ULTRA. Nokta's waterproof 5500 mAh lithium polymer battery with charger adds run time, and middle and lower shafts, the armrest and strap, the protective system box cover, nano glass screen protectors, the USB charging cable, the Nokta carrying bag and the DetectoBag 38L backpack also fit the FINDX Pro.
