Who the Nokta Gold Kruzer suits
We like the Gold Kruzer for prospectors who hunt small natural gold and want a VLF they can take into the water. Its 61 kHz frequency responds well to small, low-conductivity targets, and it is fully waterproof. That combination suits rocky creek beds, shallow water and gold-bearing ground where moisture is part of the day.
Picture a creek where the larger nuggets came out years ago. Small flakes and tiny nuggets often remain, and that is the gold 61 kHz is built to hear. The 61 kHz frequency does not guarantee more depth on every nugget, so we see the Gold Kruzer's strength as sensitivity to small gold.
About the Nokta Gold Kruzer
The Gold Kruzer is a 61 kHz VLF detector with a frequency shift in 5 steps, a 00 to 99 Target ID and a 5-level depth indicator; the full list is in the specifications below.
Power comes from an internal 3700 mAh lithium polymer battery that Nokta rates at about 14 to 19 hours. Charging takes about 4 to 6 hours with a 5V 2A charging adapter, and you can also power and charge the Gold Kruzer from a power bank, though never use it underwater while a power bank is connected. The detector weighs 1.4 kg (3 lb) with the coil, and the shaft adjusts from 111 to 135.5 cm (44 to 53 inch).
Settings that matter on the Nokta Gold Kruzer
Search modes: Nokta gives the Gold Kruzer four. GEN (all metal) is our starting point for conventional prospecting. FAST suits tough, mineralized ground with hot rocks, and targets lying close together. BOOST adds depth in milder ground. MICRO is Nokta's three-tone mode for micro jewelry, and we also use it on very small gold. Micro or Boost is not automatically best everywhere: the most sensitive settings make ground responses more noticeable.
Ground balance: automatic, manual and tracking. We begin with automatic balancing. On a hillside with iron-rich soil and hot rocks, where the ground changes as you walk, tracking helps the detector keep up (Nokta recommends it in GEN mode). It does not solve every mineralization problem, so learn manual ground balancing too.
E.U.D. (Extra Underground Depth): Nokta designed it to pick up metals masked by hot rocks, high mineralization or fringe depth. We treat it as an extra tool, not a guarantee of more depth. Mineralization and nearby metal still interfere with target ID, and E.U.D. does not work in GEN mode.
Gain (01 to 99): raise it gradually. Maximum gain can make difficult ground unnecessarily noisy.
Which Gold Kruzer coil to use
Nokta's standard package has two coils, and they differ in winding design as well as size. The GK19 is a 7.5 x 4 inch DD for narrow crevices, rocky ground and detailed searching for tiny gold. The GK26C is a 10 x 5.5 inch concentric for broader coverage, and it gives a different target response. Picture a morning working bedrock cracks with the GK19, then a switch to the GK26C for the open gravel later in the day.
Where the Nokta Gold Kruzer works well, and where it does not
Creeks and shallow water: the coil and control housing can go under in a shallow creek. The 2.4 GHz wireless headphones in Nokta's package are not waterproof, so submerged work calls for compatible waterproof headphones.
Micro jewelry: in a swimming area with small earrings, thin chains and other tiny jewelry, the 61 kHz frequency is a real help. Don't count on it to tell every small gold item from aluminum or trash, though.
Large parks and modern coins: not where we would use the Gold Kruzer. For general-purpose detecting we would pick the Nokta Legend Pro Pack or the Nokta Legend 2, and for larger buried objects and possible underground anomalies the Nokta Invenio serves a different purpose.
One mistake to avoid with the Nokta Gold Kruzer
Expecting a small-gold detector to beat lower frequency detectors on large, deep targets. A close second is assuming the wireless headphones are fine underwater.
Our recommendation on the Nokta Gold Kruzer
We recommend the Gold Kruzer to prospectors who search for small natural gold and want a fully waterproof VLF. Its strongest points are the 61 kHz sensitivity, the interchangeable coils, adjustable ground handling and the waterproof build. For other options, see our gold detectors.
