Garrett Axiom Lite Metal Detector

The Garrett Axiom Lite is the Axiom pulse induction gold detector sold with one 11 x 7 in mono coil and no headphones, and this collection holds the Lite plus every coil, cover, headphone and battery accessory that fits it. It is for prospectors who want full Axiom performance in mineralized ground and saltwater without paying for a second coil and headphones on day one.

The control box is identical to the one in the larger Axiom packages: four search modes (Fine, Normal, Large and Salt), Terra-Scan ground balance, PWM or VCO audio, Z-Lynk wireless built in, and about 16 hours per charge. The Lite weighs 4.2 lb with the included coil and cover.

Three things decide what to add. Mono or DD-FC coil: mono is the coil Garrett ships with the Lite; DD-FC adds Iron Check for trashy ground. Coil size: smaller for pickers and tight spots, larger for coverage. Headphones: any Z-Lynk set or any wired set with a 1/4 in plug.

Military Discount:  Active or retired U.S. military may be eligible for 15% off select Garrett detectors. See  Garrett Military Discount Metal Detectors for details.

What the Garrett Axiom Lite Is

The Garrett Axiom Lite (part 1142710) is the Axiom pulse induction detector in a smaller package. As of October 2026 it ships with an 11 x 7 in mono coil, an 11 in coil cover, a soft carry case and a wall charger with international adapters. Headphones, a second coil and the AA booster pack are not included. The detector is the full Axiom: the four search modes, Terra-Scan ground balance, Iron Check (with a DD-FC coil), both audio types, the built-in lithium-ion battery and the collapsing carbon fiber shaft are the same as in the larger packages. It collapses to 25 in for travel and carries the same 3-year warranty.

There is one Axiom Lite configuration. If you want a second coil, wireless headphones and the AA booster pack in one box, the full Axiom packages in the Garrett Axiom collection bundle them. If you already own headphones, or you want to pick your own coils, the Lite is the way in. The detector itself is in the grid above.

Coils That Fit the Axiom Lite

Every Axiom search coil fits the Axiom Lite, because the Lite is an Axiom. There are six, as of October 2026: 11 x 7 in, 13 x 11 in and 16 x 14 in, each as a mono coil and as a DD-FC coil (Focused Core DD). All six are in this collection, and each accessory coil ships with its own coil cover.

  • Mono coils are single-winding coils. The 11 x 7 in mono is the coil in the Lite box and the small-nugget coil of the line. The 13 x 11 in mono is the mid-size all-purpose coil. The 16 x 14 in mono is for coverage and depth in open ground, at the cost of extra weight. Iron Check does not work with a mono coil.
  • DD-FC coils are the ones to add if your ground has nails, bullets and tin. Iron Check works only with a DD-FC coil, and it lets the Axiom tell you audibly that a target is likely iron before you dig. The Focused Core design concentrates sensitivity through the center of the coil, so on the Axiom the DD-FC is not the compromise coil a DD is on older pulse induction machines.

Our practical recommendation: keep the 11 x 7 in mono on the machine until the ground tells you otherwise. Add the 11 x 7 in DD-FC if you work tailings, old camps or any site with trash. Add the 13 x 11 in or 16 x 14 in coil when you are covering open ground for larger gold. The 11 x 7 in and 16 x 14 in covers listed here are spares; a 13 x 11 in cover is listed when stocked.

I run the small mono most of the day. It is light, it hears tiny gold, and it lets me work bedrock cracks and boulder edges that a big coil cannot get into. I swap to a DD-FC when a site is throwing iron at me and I am tired of digging nails, and I swap to the big mono when I am walking a wash I have already cleaned with the small coil and want to reach deeper.

Headphones and Audio

The Axiom Lite ships without headphones, so most buyers add a set. Z-Lynk wireless is built into the control box, so the Garrett MS-3 and CS-3 Z-Lynk headphones pair directly with no transmitter. The MS-3 kit with the WT-1 transmitter is for detectors that lack Z-Lynk, so the Lite does not need it. Any wired headphone with a 1/4 in plug also works through the jack on the control box, and the built-in speaker works without headphones. Both headphone options and other compatible sets are in our metal detector headphones collection.

Two audio types are built in: PWM audio and VCO audio. VCO is the one many prospectors run for faint, small gold because the pitch rises with the signal.

Battery and Power

The built-in lithium-ion battery is rated for about 16 hours on a full charge. The Garrett Axiom Power Pack is the external AA booster that ships with the full Axiom packages and is sold separately for the Lite. It holds 8 AA cells and is rated for up to 6 more hours, which extends a day in the field or covers a trip where you cannot recharge. If your hunts are day trips with a charger at night, the built-in battery is enough and the power pack can wait.

Cases and Carry

The Lite comes with a Garrett soft carry case, and the carrying case in this collection is that same case, listed for owners who want a spare. The zippered accessory case is a separate Garrett pouch for coils, covers and headphones; it is not part of the Lite box.

Who Should Buy the Axiom Lite, and Who Should Not

  • Buy the Lite if you are moving up from a VLF to pulse induction for mineralized goldfields or saltwater beaches, you own headphones already, or you want to choose coils for your own ground instead of a preset pair.
  • Buy a full Axiom package if you know on day one that you want a second coil, wireless audio and the booster pack, and you would rather have them arrive in one box.
  • Consider a VLF gold detector if your ground is only mildly mineralized and most of your gold is small. A pulse induction machine earns its price in bad ground; in mild ground a cheaper VLF from our gold detectors collection can be enough. Terms Worth Knowing

  • Pulse induction (PI): a detector technology that ignores most ground mineralization, which is why it works in black sand and saltwater where VLF machines struggle.
  • Mono coil: a single-winding coil. The coil in the Lite box. No Iron Check.
  • DD-FC coil: the double-winding Focused Core coil for the Axiom. Enables Iron Check and keeps sensitivity to small gold through the center of the coil.
  • Terra-Scan: the Axiom's ground balance system, built to cover the full range from heavily mineralized ground to saltwater.
  • Z-Lynk: Garrett's wireless audio link, built into the Axiom control box.

How long does the Garrett Axiom Lite battery last, and can I extend it?

The Garrett Axiom Lite runs about 16 hours per charge on its built-in lithium-ion battery. For longer trips, the Garrett Axiom Power Pack holds 8 AA batteries and adds up to 6 hours; it is sold separately for the Lite and is in our Garrett Axiom Lite collection.

Which Axiom coils fit the Garrett Axiom Lite?

All six Garrett Axiom coils fit the Garrett Axiom Lite: 11 x 7 in, 13 x 11 in and 16 x 14 in, each in mono and DD-FC, as of October 2026. The Lite is the same Axiom detector, so there is no coil it cannot run. They are all listed in our Garrett Axiom Lite collection.

Do I need headphones to use the Garrett Axiom Lite?

No, the Garrett Axiom Lite has a built-in speaker, so it works out of the box without headphones. Most prospectors add a set to hear faint signals, and because Z-Lynk wireless is built in, Garrett's MS-3 and CS-3 pair directly; any wired set with a 1/4 in plug also works. See our metal detector headphones collection.
