OKM Delta Ranger Metal Detector

The OKM Delta Ranger is a handheld survey instrument that puts six detection methods on one control unit with three interchangeable probes: long-range, ground scan and thermal. It is shopped by treasure and cache searchers who face a large or hard-to-reach area, want to narrow it down quickly, and then confirm a spot with a 3D ground scan before excavating.

What decides whether the Delta Ranger is the right OKM: you need the long-range and thermal modes, not just 3D scanning; you are comfortable working from an Android phone and a Windows notebook, both included; and you will use it in dry conditions, because OKM lists the control unit as not waterproof.

How the OKM Delta Ranger Works: Three Probes, Six Modes

The OKM Delta Ranger changes job by changing probe. OKM lists two modes per probe:

Long-Range Probe: Bionic Stream, for gold that has been buried recently, which OKM says also works on wet soil and after rain; and Ionic Stream, for gold that has been in the ground a long time.

Ground Scan Probe: Magnetometer, to clear iron near the surface before a scan; and 3D Ground Scan, which maps a measured grid so you can read a target's position, size and depth in Visualizer 3D Studio.

Thermo Probe: Thermo Scan, which records temperature differences on a surface to show features such as hidden rooms behind walls; and Thermo Stream, a live thermal view over the camera image.

What OKM Claims for Range and Depth

These are manufacturer claims, and OKM attaches few conditions to them. For 3D Ground Scan, OKM says the Delta Ranger detects targets as deep as 18 m (60 ft). OKM does not say what size of target that figure is for; in practice only large objects come near it, and small objects are found far shallower. For the long-range modes, OKM describes a range of several miles and says they work best in sparsely populated or undisturbed areas. Long-range location is not something we can measure or confirm on the bench, so treat it as a way to choose where to scan, and the 3D Ground Scan as the step that tells you whether a spot is worth digging. Our guide to how deep metal detectors go covers why depth claims vary.

What Comes with the Delta Ranger

As of October 2026, OKM lists one standard Delta Ranger kit: the control unit, the Long-Range, Thermo and Ground Scan probes, an Android smartphone with the OKM app, Bluetooth headphones with charging cable, a pre-configured Windows notebook, a USB flash drive with Visualizer 3D Studio Standard Edition, the PP20V3A01 power pack, a USB-C charger with cable, a travel adapter set, a waterproof and shock-resistant protector case, and a quick start guide. OKM notes the scope can differ by configuration; the Delta Ranger listing carries the current contents.

The handheld parts are light. OKM lists the control unit at 640 g (22.6 oz) and the probes at 105 to 165 g (3.7 to 5.8 oz) each. The battery is built in and not removable; OKM rates it at about 24 hours of operation and about 3.5 hours to charge. OKM covers the Delta Ranger with a 2-year guarantee.

Software and Add-Ons

The included Visualizer 3D Studio Standard Edition reads the Delta Ranger's 3D scans. OKM sells higher editions of Visualizer 3D Studio, its Scan Analysis service, software training and remote support separately. As of October 2026, OKM lists no extra probes or coils for the Delta Ranger beyond the three in the box, and probes from other OKM models are not listed as compatible.

Who the Delta Ranger Suits, and Who It Does Not

OKM aims the Delta Ranger at treasure hunters who do not know where to start on a big site, and lists archaeology, cavity detection, militaria and tunnel detection as uses. It fits ruins, open country, desert and mountain ground, and building interiors where the thermal modes can check walls.

It is the wrong tool for parks and beaches. It does not discriminate a coin from a pull tab, the grid method is slow for scattered small finds, and it is not waterproof: OKM rates the control unit for -5 to 50 C (23 to 122 F) and lists it as not waterproof, with only the transport case sealed. For that kind of detecting, a conventional metal detector is the better buy.

We tell customers to plan on the notebook as part of the kit, not an extra: the 3D scan only pays off once you sit down with the software and read the image, and that is where most of the learning time goes.

If You Will Not Use the Long-Range and Thermal Probes

The Delta Ranger's case rests on its long-range and thermal modes. A buyer who would only ever run the Ground Scan probe is paying for two probes that stay in the case. For 3D scanning with a shallow-target mode, the OKM Evolution NTX pairs 3D Scan with a VLF Live Sound mode, and the OKM Fusion series and OKM Rover series cover phone, smartwatch and touchscreen-controlled scanners. If you want the most sensor options for 3D imaging, the OKM eXp 5500 adds a Super Sensor and a VLF search coil. For structures and cavities rather than metal, the OKM Gepard GPR uses ground-penetrating radar, and for groundwater the OKM GeoSeeker water detectors measure soil resistivity.

How deep does the OKM Delta Ranger detect?

OKM says the Delta Ranger's 3D Ground Scan detects targets as deep as 18 m (60 ft), without saying what size of target that is for; in practice only large objects come near it, and small objects such as single coins are found far shallower, and soil and grid technique change the result. The long-range modes are a separate claim: OKM describes a range of several miles, working best in sparsely populated or undisturbed areas, and gives no depth figure for them. Use long-range to choose where to scan and the 3D scan to decide whether to dig. Our guide to how deep metal detectors go explains what drives detection depth.

Can the OKM Delta Ranger find hidden rooms or voids behind walls?

Yes, finding hidden rooms behind walls is what the OKM Delta Ranger's Thermo Probe is for: in Thermo Scan mode it records temperature differences across a surface, which OKM says can show features such as hidden rooms behind walls, and Thermo Stream gives a live thermal view over the camera image. OKM also lists cavity and tunnel detection among its uses. For voids and structures below ground, the OKM Gepard GPR uses ground-penetrating radar instead.

How long does the OKM Delta Ranger battery last?

OKM rates the Delta Ranger battery at about 24 hours of operation per charge, with about 3.5 hours to recharge at 10 to 30 C (50 to 86 F) using the included USB-C charger. The battery is built in and not removable, so you cannot carry a spare pack. The included Android phone and Windows notebook have their own batteries. Other OKM scanners list their own runtimes on their pages.
