The Nokta Simplex Lite Waterproof Metal Detector is the cleanest upgrade path off a starter machine without losing the features a real detector needs. At 2.6 pounds, IP68 submersible to 16 feet, and running a 01-99 target ID scale, this is the entry point of the Nokta Simplex line, the same chassis and search platform that power the Simplex Ultra, repackaged for first-time buyers and detectorists trading up from a sub-$150 builder-grade unit.

What You Gain Coming from a Beginner Machine

    • True submersibility, not just a waterproof coil. The IP68 rating covers every component to 16 feet, so we can wade past the surf line, work creek beds, or hunt in steady rain without packing up.
    • A 01-99 target ID scale instead of a 4-zone needle gauge. Iron, foil, nickel, zinc, copper, and silver each read in their own number range, so we make a dig decision before we cut the plug.
    • Four real search modes (Field, Park, Beach, All Metal) tuned for different ground, plus a true All Metal threshold that single-tone starter detectors skip entirely.
    • Notch discrimination and frequency shift, the same EMI tools we run on detectors three times the price. Hunt next to power lines or in trashy parks without the chatter masking real targets.
    • A 3-year manufacturer warranty and field-updatable firmware over USB. The detector improves with each Nokta release instead of aging out.

Detectorists ready for wireless audio, a coin-and-relic ID scale, and tone customization can compare specs across the Nokta Simplex Ultra collection.

    Field-Use Guide

    Beach and Surf

Salt-saturated sand chatters most single-frequency machines, and shallow water swallows plenty of detectors that claim to be water resistant. The Simplex Lite was built for both. The IP68 housing seals the entire system to 16 feet, and Beach mode rebalances the 15 kHz signal so coins and rings stay readable through wet sand and shell pockets without losing iron sensitivity entirely.

    • Mode: Beach
    • Sensitivity: 18 to 22 (drop a notch if salt chatter creeps in)
    • Ground Balance: Auto
    • Discrimination: Notch out 01 to 15 if iron junk is heavy

    Parks and Trashy Sites

Old playgrounds and town greens layer foil, pull-tabs, and bottle caps over real silver and copper. Park mode tightens the discrimination band against trash without choking out nickels, and the vibration alert is the cleaner read in noisy environments where audio gets buried by wind or playground noise.

    • Mode: Park
    • Sensitivity: 22 to 26
    • Iron Off: On for trash-heavy ground, Off when chasing relics
    • Pinpoint: Engage on every solid hit before the dig

Open Field and Pasture Relic Hunting

Open ground rewards a wider sweep and a deeper-tuned response. Field mode prioritizes ground-balanced depth across the full 01-99 target ID range, and the SX24 coil handles loose, low-trash soil cleanly at faster swing speeds.

    • Mode: Field
    • Sensitivity: 24 to 28
    • Ground Balance: Auto, then Manual lock for stability
    • Frequency Shift: Adjust if EMI from buried fence or barn wiring presses in

    Single-Frequency 15 kHz with True IP68 Submersibility

The Simplex Lite runs a clean 15 kHz VLF signal, the frequency Nokta tuned the entire Simplex platform around. At 15 kHz, response on small jewelry, hammered silver, and thin-cut coins lands in the sweet spot, hot enough to ring a small ring at depth, balanced enough not to scream on every iron nail. We have found this is the frequency new detectorists learn fastest on, because every tone gets paired with a stable target ID number from the 01-99 scale.

Submersibility is the spec most beginner machines fudge. The Simplex Lite earns a full IP68 rating to 5 meters (16 feet), so the system box, the coil, and the shaft are sealed for shallow snorkel hunts, river bottoms, and surf-line work. Frequency shift handles EMI in small increments, the LED flashlight and dual backlights stretch the day into dusk, and firmware updates over USB keep the detector current as Nokta releases improvements.

    Build, Display, and Audio

The chassis weighs 1.2 kg (2.6 lbs) and adjusts from 25 inches collapsed to 52 inches extended, so the Simplex Lite packs into a backpack and swings comfortably for hunters from kids to six-footers. The shaft is aluminum and reinforced plastic, sturdy for daily use, light enough that wrist fatigue is not a factor across a four-hour hunt. A graphic LCD shows the active target ID and search mode side by side, with sensitivity and battery indicators along the same screen, and the keypad backlight stays readable in low-light brush.

Audio runs through a built-in speaker or wired headphones via the included 6.3mm (1/4") adapter, with five volume levels and an Iron Off audio option that mutes ferrous targets without changing the visual ID. The vibration alert is the feature we send first-time hunters home with, the one they did not know they needed. Underwater or in heavy wind, vibration is the cleaner detection channel.

    Coil Options

The Simplex Lite ships with the SX24 Waterproof DD coil, a 9.5" x 6" elliptical that handles target separation in mid-trash sites and fits naturally into tight hunting lanes between roots and fence lines. For open-field relic work or wider beach coverage, our team upgrades to the optional SX28 11" round DD coil, which adds depth and ground coverage at the cost of a heavier swing. Both coils lock to the same lower shaft, so swapping between them in the field takes under a minute.
