OKM Fusion Professional Plus 3D Ground Scanner with Live Scan and SRIS Coil

The OKM Fusion Professional Plus is a 3D ground scanner from the German maker OKM, with a built-in SRIS inductive search coil for shallow metal. It records measurements over a marked scan field and turns them into 3D images on a Windows notebook, so you can look at buried anomalies, cavities and larger metal objects before you dig. It is the top Fusion edition and the only one that adds Live Scan modes and a horizontal Multi-Sensor probe. It suits treasure hunters, cavity and tunnel searchers, archaeologists and engineers who need images of what lies underground, not just a tone.

Who the Fusion Professional Plus is for

The Fusion Professional Plus is for people who search for larger targets and structures: caches, tombs, voids, tunnels, foundations and buried pipes. It is also for teams who need to document a site before excavation.

It is not a coin and relic machine. If you want to swing over a park, a beach or a plowed field and dig coins, rings and buttons, a conventional VLF or multi-frequency detector does that job faster and for a fraction of the cost. Operating modes and what they do in the field

• 3D Ground Scan: you walk a scan field in parallel lines while the Fusion records measurements, then view the result as a color-coded 3D image in Visualizer 3D Studio to judge an anomaly's position, size and depth. OKM states a detection depth of down to 69 ft (21 m).
• Live Sound (magnetometer): real-time audio for metal near the surface. OKM recommends it for clearing a scan field of surface metal before you run a 3D Ground Scan, so shallow junk does not dominate the image.
• Live Scan, horizontal Multi-Sensor probe (Plus only): an instant color-coded 2D picture of the area as you move. The Multi-Sensor technology records several values at once, so horizontal scans go faster.
• Live Scan, vertical probe, "ultrasound" view (Plus only): an instant image similar to an ultrasound, with anomalies shown in green. You can move the probe back and forth without a fixed scan pattern, which OKM recommends for narrow galleries and tunnels.
• SRIS search coil (SRIS-18K): an inductive coil built into the probe that you can switch on in Live Sound, 3D Ground Scan and Live Scan (ultrasound). Use it to find shallow metal near the surface and to check excavated soil for small items such as coins, rings and buttons while you dig.

Vertical and horizontal probe orientation

In vertical orientation you hold the probe in one hand and the notebook in the other, and you can enable the SRIS coil for high-resolution scans. In horizontal orientation the probe mounts on the height-adjustable telescopic rod with the notebook above the handle, so you run the software from the handle while you walk. Horizontal 3D Ground Scan and Live Scan with the Multi-Sensor probe are only available on the Professional Plus.

Weight, battery and conditions

The control unit is 950 mm (37.4 in) long and weighs about 1 kg (2.2 lbs). Its built-in rechargeable battery runs about 12 hours on a full charge at 25°C (77°F). The rated operating range is -10°C to 60°C (14°F to 140°F). The control unit is rated IP40 and is not waterproof, so keep it out of rain and water and carry it in the protector case. The Bluetooth headphones have a range of about 10 m (33 ft).

Where it works well and where it does not

The Fusion Professional Plus works best on open, accessible ground where you can walk a regular scan field, and inside tunnels and galleries using the vertical Live Scan view. A 3D scanner shows anomalies, meaning areas that differ from the surrounding soil. Reading those images takes practice, and the stated 69 ft (21 m) depth applies to large objects and structures, not to coins or small jewelry. Small, shallow metal is the SRIS coil's job. Wet weather, standing water and dense brush that blocks a regular scan pattern are the main limits.

How it differs from the other OKM Fusion editions

• Fusion Professional: same SRIS coil and 3D Ground Scan, but vertical probe orientation only, no Live Scan modes, no telescopic rod, and Visualizer 3D Studio Standard Edition instead of Professional.
• Fusion Light: no SRIS coil, vertical orientation only, and an OKM Android smartphone app alongside the notebook. A lower-cost way into OKM 3D scanning when you do not need the coil or Live Scan.
