The coil and remote in this XP DEUS II RC
13 x 11 inch coil: the 34 x 28 cm (13 x 11 inch) FMF coil is the largest of XP's standard DEUS II coils, so it covers the most ground per swing. At 570 g (20.1 oz) it is also the heaviest: the 11 inch weighs 470 g (16.6 oz), the 9 inch 345 g (12.2 oz) and the 9.5 x 5 inch HF2 340 g (12.0 oz).
DEUS II remote: every setting sits on the remote's screen, and you can mount the remote on the stem or wear it on your belt in the hip-mount case. Audio plays from the remote's own speaker, and any XP DEUS II headset can be paired with it.
What the add-ons in this XP DEUS II RC bundle do
XP WSA-XL ST headphones: the WSA-XL ST is XP's larger wireless stereo headset (250 g, about 15 hours per charge), audio only, with XP's stereo audio features, which run two independent detection channels. XP rates it IP68 to 1 meter, so it survives waves, splashes and a drop in the water, but it is not made for use under water. See our metal detector headphones.
XP XTREM Hunter XTR-115E coil set: XP describes the XTREM Hunter as a two-box deep seeker that can reach large targets at up to 5 meters (16 feet). XP says it is naturally insensitive to small targets like nails, and its IAR iron rejection can discriminate some moderate-sized ferrous objects. Paired with the DEUS II remote as a new coil, the remote shows the XTREM Hunter's own menus: sensitivity, Reactivity, adjustable autotune, threshold, IAR iron rejection, audio response, an automatic or manual frequency scan over 14 channels, ground balance and a 4 second recording with play and pause. XP suggests switching to a standard DEUS II coil to confirm targets at moderate distances. We would not use the XTREM Hunter for individual coins, small jewelry or tiny gold nuggets; for those targets, use a standard DEUS II coil. Picture an old industrial property where a large buried iron object may be present: we would survey the area systematically with the XTREM Hunter, then switch to a standard DEUS II coil for more precise investigation. Its advantage is on sufficiently large objects, not greater depth on every target.

About the XP DEUS II
What we like about the XP DEUS II is that it combines XP's Fast Multi Frequency (FMF) simultaneous multi-frequency technology with exceptional light weight, fast target response and extensive audio customization, and its wireless coil, remote and headphone ecosystem is particularly appealing to serious detectorists. It suits experienced coin, relic, jewelry and beach hunters who want substantial control over how their detector responds. For XP performance without the DEUS II's complexity, we would recommend the XP ICON or XP ICONX; for natural gold in relatively manageable ground, the XP ORX with an appropriate HF coil is worth considering.
FMF processes several frequencies at the same time, which matters because different targets and ground conditions respond differently to different frequencies. The DEUS MONO program also runs any of 49 single frequencies from 4 to 45 kHz. We would start with a factory program before changing advanced settings.
XP DEUS II programs and key settings
- Programs: 12 factory programs (General, Sensitive, Sensi FT, Fast, Park, Deep HC, DEUS MONO, Gold Field, Relic, Diving, Beach and Beach Sens) and 12 user slots for your own versions.
- Reactivity (9 levels, 0 to 5): XP's term for how quickly the detector responds to nearby targets. XP's manual recommends 0 to 1 for coins and large targets in ground free of iron, and 3 to 5 for iron-contaminated or mineralized ground.
- Iron Volume (0 to 10): sets how loud iron responses are, so iron can be turned down without silencing it.
- Audio: PWM and SQUARE audio, Multi Tones from 1 to 5 plus Pitch and Full Tones, Audio Response from 0 to 7, a threshold from 0 to 20 and a 4-band equalizer on each audio output. The difference between PWM and SQUARE audio is one of the settings we would learn early.
- Ground balance, sensitivity and interference: Tracking, Grab or Manual ground balance (Manual in DEUS MONO only), sensitivity from 0 to 99, and a frequency shift and automatic frequency scan. XP's manual suggests lowering sensitivity in trashy areas or close to power lines and fences, shifting the frequency or running the automatic scan to find the quietest channel when interference is high, and using Salt Sens (1 to 9) rather than general sensitivity on wet sand or in the surf.
Where the XP DEUS II works well, and where it does not
We would choose the DEUS II for demanding coin and relic hunting, where advanced audio, target separation and customization matter, and it also covers jewelry and beach hunting. Picture a nineteenth-century farmhouse site with square nails scattered around an old foundation: we would start with General or Sensitive, then experiment with Reactivity and discrimination while listening carefully for repeatable non-ferrous responses between iron signals. Iron masking is still a limitation: XP's manual notes that at a low Reactivity, iron is detected for longer and can completely hide a ring next to it. See more relic and treasure metal detectors. On an ocean beach, where wet salt sand produces a response of its own, the Beach and Beach Sens programs are designed for those conditions. Black sand, severe mineralization and electrical interference can still affect performance; on magnetic ground such as black sand, XP's manual notes that deep targets may be masked. See our beach metal detectors.
Water ratings for each part of this XP DEUS II RC
XP rates the FMF coil IP68 to 20 meters (66 feet). The remote is rated to 20 meters only with its red cap fitted, which XP reserves for underwater use; with the gray cap it is rated to 1 meter. When the coil is submerged, the radio link needs the aerial antenna, so follow XP's instructions rather than assuming the ordinary wireless setup works under water. For underwater audio, XP specifies its BH-01 bone conduction headset, which plugs into the remote and is rated IP68 to 20 meters. The WSA-XL ST is rated to 1 meter but is not made for use under water. The 20 meter rating is for the DEUS II FMF coil, so keep the XTREM Hunter coil set above the water. See our waterproof metal detectors.
XP DEUS II wireless design and charging
XP's own digital radio in the 2.40 to 2.48 GHz band links the coil, the control unit and XP's wireless headphones, so there is no external coil cable and the detector goes together quickly. The trade-off is separate rechargeable parts: each FMF coil's 700 mAh battery runs 8 to 20 hours depending on program and frequency. XP's manual warns that opening the detector or changing a battery yourself voids the warranty.
One mistake to avoid with the XP DEUS II
The mistake we warn new owners about is setting Reactivity and iron filtering too aggressively, then assuming every remaining response is a desirable target. Those adjustments can affect depth and target response.
