XP WSA-XL ST Over-Ear Wireless Headphones for DEUS II

The XP WSA-XL ST is a wireless over-ear stereo headset for the XP Deus II. It receives audio over XP's own 2.4 GHz radio link, not Bluetooth, and pairs with the Deus II remote control, the WS6 Master or the WS6-ST Master. The full cups cover the whole ear, the headset weighs 250 g (8.8 oz), and XP rates it rainproof, tested to IP68 at 1 m (3.3 ft). It suits Deus II owners who hunt in wind, surf noise or bad weather and want more isolation than a light on-ear headset gives.

Who the XP WSA-XL ST Is For

Choose the WSA-XL ST if outside noise is your problem. On an open beach, a windy field or beside a road, a cup that closes around the ear lets you hear quiet signals at a lower volume, and that is less tiring over a long day.

A different XP headset is the better choice if:

• You want the lightest headset, or you hunt in heat. The XP WSA ST is XP's 72 g (2.5 oz) folding headset with on-ear pads, also rainproof, in a lower price band. Full cups are warmer on the ears in summer. If you mostly hunt quiet parks and fields, the WSA ST is enough.
• You want to detect with no remote control on the stem. The XP WS6 ST is a headset whose detachable module is a small control pod for the Deus II: it can run the coil with no remote control, which XP calls the WS6-ST Master. The WSA-XL ST is a receiver only: it cannot run the detector by itself. The WS6 ST sits in a higher price band.

Why Deus II Owners Reach for the WSA-XL ST: Key Features in Use

• Over-ear cups: XP describes the WSA-XL ST as suited to noisy environments such as wind, bad weather and waves on the beach. The cups do this passively, by covering the ear. XP lists no electronic noise cancellation.
• Rainproof, tested to IP68 at 1 m (3.3 ft): you can keep hunting in rain and spray. XP adds that the headset was not designed for diving, and that the test shows its robustness against waves or a drop into water.
• XP wireless link, not Bluetooth: XP says its wireless protocol is about 10 times faster than low latency Bluetooth, and that this translates into better target localization. In use we find there is no lag to make you overshoot a target on a fast swing. The link works in the 2.400 to 2.480 GHz band.
• Automatic power on and off: once paired, the WSA-XL ST switches on and off with the remote control or WS6. If it is switched on with no controller to connect to, it turns itself off after 5 minutes. It also turns off after 5 hours with no key pressed on the controller, and every key press restarts that 5 hour timer.
• Volume on the headset: 10 levels, set with the + and - keys on the headset or from the controller.
• 4-band equalizer: adjusted from the remote control, WS6 Master or WS6-ST Master, so you can shape the audio to your own hearing. On the beach we lift the mid bands, where gold rings and small silver sit.
• Audio options: XP lists PWM and SQUARE, with more to come.
• Dual Reactivity in stereo: with the Deus II, XP explains that you can set two different reactivity values and hear one in each ear through a stereo ST headset such as the WSA-XL ST. XP calls this Dual Reactivity.
• Battery level at switch-on: after the quick start-up flashes, the LED gives 3 long flashes for 100%, 2 for 60% and 1 for 30%.
• USB-C charging: XP gives 2 hours for a charge.
• Foldable: the WSA-XL ST folds for the pack or the detector bag.
• Made in France, LONGTIME certified: XP builds the headset in France. LONGTIME is a European label for products designed to last.

XP WSA-XL ST Compatibility

• XP Deus II: pairs with the Deus II remote control, the WS6 Master or the WS6-ST Master (a WS6 or WS6 ST being used as the controller).
• XP ICON and ICONX: XP's ST headsets work with the XP ICON and XP ICONX, paired with the ICON remote control. XP's own page for the WSA-XL ST names only the Deus II; the ICON series compatibility is our statement as an XP dealer, as of October 2026.
• XP XTREM Hunter: the XP XTREM Hunter runs on Deus II electronics with large deep-search coils, so the WSA-XL ST pairs with that setup the same way.
• Charging: any USB power source with the USB-C cable.
• Wired use: XP lists no cable socket for wired audio on the WSA-XL ST. It is a wireless headset only.
• Phones and Bluetooth devices: the WSA-XL ST uses XP's own radio protocol and XP lists no Bluetooth.

Where the WSA-XL ST Works Well and Where It Does Not

Saltwater Beaches, Wind and Surf Noise

XP names waves on the beach among the noisy places the WSA-XL ST is meant for. Surf and wind are the two things that hide a faint signal on a beach, and the closed cups take the edge off both, so you hear the full tone of a deep target without turning the volume up to beat the wind. Rain and spray are within the rating.

Limits: the WSA-XL ST is rainproof, not a diving headset. XP tested it to 1 m (3.3 ft) and says it was not designed to dive. Rinse salt off with fresh water after a beach day; that is our habit with any beach gear, not an XP instruction.

Parks and Relic Sites in Rain

When rain starts mid-hunt you keep going. Because the WSA-XL ST switches on and off with the controller, once it is paired there is nothing to press with wet hands. Folded, it goes into the pack between sites.

Limits: closed cups also shut out things you may want to hear, such as traffic, a dog or someone walking up behind you. In a busy park we would keep the volume moderate or pick the on-ear WSA ST.

Long Sessions and Hot Weather

At 250 g (8.8 oz) XP calls the WSA-XL ST lightweight and very comfortable. It is still about three and a half times the weight of the 72 g WSA ST, and any closed cup gets warm in summer. For spring, fall and winter hunting that warmth is welcome.

Limits: XP does not publish a battery runtime for the WSA-XL ST, so we will not quote one. Check the LED flashes at switch-on before a long day.

How the WSA-XL ST Differs from the WSA ST and WS6 ST

Closest model down, the XP WSA ST: the same job in an on-ear folding headset at 72 g against 250 g. XP lists the same 10 volume levels, 4-band equalizer, 2 hour USB-C charge and 5-year warranty for both. You give up the full-cup isolation and the IP68 1 m test figure; XP calls the WSA ST rainproof without giving a depth. It is the better buy if weight matters more to you than outside noise.

Closest model up, the XP WS6 ST: a headset with its own control module that can run the Deus II coil as the WS6-ST Master, with no remote control. Buy it if you want that option. If you always carry the remote, the WSA-XL ST does the listening job and costs less.
