Headphone Compatibility Rules
XP made some major wireless protocol changes between detector generations. The original Deus works with WS4 and WS5 headphones, while the ORX only pairs with the budget-friendly WSAudio. The Deus II represents a complete break—it requires WS6 headphones or the larger WSAII models.
You can't mix and match across these generations. A WS4 won't connect to a Deus II, and a WS6 won't work with the original Deus. This is probably the most common compatibility question we get from customers.
Search Coil Compatibility
The coil situation is equally generation-specific. Original Deus and ORX models use HF and X35 coils, which offer excellent performance for coin shooting and relic hunting. The Deus II exclusively uses FMF (Fast Multi-Frequency) coils, which provide better ground handling in mineralized soil.
FMF coils won't work on older Deus models—the wireless protocols are completely different. If you're upgrading from a Deus to a Deus II, you'll need new coils.

Can I Use WS4 Headphones with a Deus II?
No. The Deus II uses a completely different wireless protocol and won't recognize WS4 or WS5 headphones. You need WS6 or WSAII headphones specifically designed for the Deus II.
Will X35 Coils Work on the Deus II?
No. The Deus II only accepts FMF coils. The wireless communication between the coil and control box is fundamentally different from the original Deus system.
Can I Upgrade My Original Deus to Use FMF Coils?
