30 in Lightweight Plastic Sluice Box (GP-SB32)
The GP-SB32 is a 30 in sluice box molded from lightweight ABS plastic, with four traditional riffle patterns built into its channel. It comes with an adjustable 48 in shoulder strap and carabiners, so you can carry it on your shoulder or back while hiking into a creek. It suits prospectors who want a sluice light enough to carry on foot and simple enough to set up without tools.
Who this sluice box is for
The GP-SB32 fits prospectors who walk into their spots and want to process more gravel than a gold pan can handle. It is also a sensible first sluice for someone moving up from panning only.
If you set up in the same place often and want a more rigid box with matting, an aluminum sluice from the TerraX prospecting line is the better fit. If you only need something that packs into a bucket or small backpack, a pocket sluice in the same line is smaller and lighter.
Key features
- Lightweight ABS plastic: the box stays light on long hikes, and plastic will not rust or corrode from creek water.
- Four riffle patterns in the channel: traditional riffles slow the water so heavier gold drops out while lighter material washes through.
- 48 in adjustable 3-point carrying strap: the strap clips on with carabiners and can be set up three different ways to carry the box.
- Easy to transport: one box with a strap and no loose parts to pack for the hike in.
What is in the box
- 30 in green ABS plastic sluice box (GP-SB32)
- 48 in adjustable carrying strap
- 3 Carabiners for attaching the strap
Not included: a gold pan, classifier, snuffer bottle or sample vials. Most prospectors run a sluice together with a classifier to screen material first, and a gold pan to clean up the concentrates afterward.
Where the GP-SB32 works well, and where it does not
The GP-SB32 is made for creeks and streams with enough current to move water steadily through the box. It works best on classified gravel, because large rocks can block the riffles and send gold out the end of the sluice.
In very slow or still water there is not enough flow to run any sluice, so panning is more practical. In fast, deep water, a lightweight plastic box needs to be anchored well with rocks so it stays in place.
Choosing a sluice box
Compared with an aluminum sluice, the GP-SB32 is lighter to carry but less rigid, and its riffles are molded into the box instead of sitting on removable matting. Pocket sluices are smaller still, and they trade capacity for packability. You can see every sluice box, pan and classifier we carry in our gold prospecting equipment collection.
