The CKG Carbon Fiber Handle is a one piece, 45.5 in sand scoop pole made from 3K carbon fiber. It weighs 14 oz (375 g) and has a 28.5 mm (1 1/8 in) outside diameter, so it fits CKG sand scoops and most scoop baskets built for a 1 1/8 in pole. It is for beach and water hunters who want to dig standing up with a light, stiff pole that will not rust in salt water. The scoop basket is sold separately.

Scoop compatibility

The CKG carbon fiber handle fits CKG sand scoops and other scoop baskets or tool heads with a mount sized for a 28.5 mm (1 1/8 in) pole. Before pairing it with another brand's basket, check that the basket's socket takes a 1 1/8 in pole. A socket sized for a thinner or thicker pole will not hold it securely.

Where the CKG carbon fiber handle works well, and where it does not

• Surf and wet slope: the best use for a light carbon pole. You make the most scoops here, and salt water will not corrode the tube.
• Shallow water: 45.5 in of reach lets you scoop around knee to waist depth while standing.
• Dry sand and towel line: works well, though a hand scoop is often faster for shallow targets in loose dry sand.
• Air travel: a one piece 45.5 in pole does not fit in a standard suitcase. Choose the two piece travel handle if you fly.
• Prying rocks and roots: carbon fiber is stiff, but it is a scoop pole, not a pry bar. Use a steel shovel for heavy prying in rocky or rooted ground.
