The Gray Ghost Wireless Platinum headphones cut the cable between you and a Minelab FBS or GPX detector. If you swing an E-TRAC, Explorer, Safari, or Quattro, or a GPX 4000, 4500, 4800, or 5000, none of which has Bluetooth of its own, this is the purpose-built way to hunt untethered: a small 2.4 GHz transmitter straps to your detector shaft, plugs into the 1/4" headphone jack, and pairs automatically with the headphones the moment both are powered on. The Platinum Series adds DetectorPro's upgraded high-end speakers to the proven Gray Ghost wireless platform.

Is This the Right Gray Ghost for Your Detector?

This version is built for Minelab FBS and GPX machines only. If you run an Equinox or Manticore, get the Gray Ghost Platinum Wireless for Equinox and Manticore instead, since those detectors pair differently. If you want the same FBS/GPX wireless setup without the Platinum speaker upgrade, the standard Gray Ghost Wireless for Minelab FBS/GPX costs less. And if you prefer no batteries at all on an FBS machine, the wired Original Gray Ghost Platinum with 1/4" angle plug is the classic choice among metal detector headphones.

What Wireless Changes in the Field

The transmission delay is 12.5 milliseconds, quick enough that target response feels immediate when you sweep, center, and pinpoint. That matters most on a GPX, where you are listening for faint threshold variations on small gold: a laggy signal makes it hard to tie a sound to a spot on the ground. The 2.4 GHz link uses GFSK frequency modulation and pairs transmitter to receiver automatically on power-up, so there is no pairing menu and nothing to configure at the truck.

Both the headphones and the transmitter run on rechargeable lithium batteries rated for 10 hours of continuous operation, and the included dual charger fills both at once in up to 4 hours. Charge them the night before and a full day of detecting fits inside one charge. The padded full-ear muffs insulate against wind and surf noise, and the rotary volume control gives full-range adjustment at the earcup, useful when you move between quiet ground and EMI-noisy sites. Keep the transmitter and headphones within the rated 20-foot range, which in practice means transmitter on the shaft, headphones on your head, with range to spare if you set the detector down to dig. These headphones are not waterproof, so treat them as land gear.

Can you use regular Bluetooth headphones with a Minelab GPX or E-TRAC instead of the DetectorPro Gray Ghost Wireless Platinum?

No, you can't use regular Bluetooth headphones with a Minelab GPX or E-TRAC, because those detectors have no Bluetooth transmitter built in. The DetectorPro Gray Ghost Wireless Platinum solves this with its own 2.4 GHz transmitter that plugs into the detector's 1/4 inch jack and pairs automatically, with just a 12.5 ms delay. You can compare wired and wireless options in our metal detector headphones collection.

    Answered by Evan K. · August 2026

How long do the DetectorPro Gray Ghost Wireless Platinum headphones run on a charge?

The DetectorPro Gray Ghost Wireless Platinum headphones run about 10 hours of continuous operation on a charge. Both the headphones and the transmitter use rechargeable lithium batteries, and the included dual charger fills both at once in up to 4 hours, so an overnight charge covers a full day of detecting. The rest of the DetectorPro lineup includes wired models that need no batteries at all.

    Answered by Evan K. · August 2026

Do the DetectorPro Gray Ghost Wireless Platinum headphones lag behind the target signal?

No, the DetectorPro Gray Ghost Wireless Platinum headphones do not noticeably lag: the transmission delay is 12.5 milliseconds, quick enough that audio tracks your coil sweep. The 2.4 GHz link uses GFSK modulation with a 20-foot transmitter-to-headphone range, and DetectorPro specifies instant response time to targets.
