The Garrett ACE 6.5 x 9 in Open Cover Coil Kit pairs Garrett's ACE 6.5 x 9 in PROformance concentric searchcoil (part 2221700) with an open-frame coil cover, a lower rod and mounting hardware, ready to bolt on. The coil weighs 1 lb, is fully submersible, and fits every ACE model from the ACE 100 to the ACE 400i except the ACE Apex. ACE 150, 200 and 250 owners buy it as a replacement or spare for their stock coil; ACE 300 and ACE 400 owners buy it as a smaller, lighter second coil for tight spots.

Why this kit has an open coil cover

The open-frame cover follows the spokes of the coil and leaves the openings clear, so sand, mud and water fall through instead of packing in between the cover and the coil face. That makes it a good match for beach and wet-ground hunting, with less time spent pulling the cover off to rinse it.

Who the Garrett ACE 6.5 x 9 in coil is for

• ACE 150, ACE 200 and ACE 250 owners: this is the size and type of coil those detectors ship with. Buy it to replace a damaged coil or to keep a spare.
• ACE 300 owners: the Garrett ACE 300 ships with a 7 x 10 in concentric coil. The 6.5 x 9 in is a little smaller and lighter, which helps around trees, fences and playground edges.
• ACE 400 owners: the Garrett ACE 400 ships with an 8.5 x 11 in DD coil, which runs more stable on mineralized ground and wet salt sand. Use the 6.5 x 9 in as a second coil for tight spots, not as a replacement.

If you own the Garrett ACE Apex, this coil will not work. Garrett states it is not for use with the Apex.

This Garrett ACE 6.5 x 9 in coil kit also includes

With its own lower rod, the coil can stay mounted and cabled, so switching coils means swapping the complete lower rod at the shaft rather than unbolting the coil each time.

Garrett ACE 6.5 x 9 in coil compatibility

Fits: ACE 100, ACE 150, ACE 200, ACE 200i, ACE 250, ACE 300, ACE 300i, ACE 350, EuroACE, ACE 400 and ACE 400i.

Does not fit: the ACE Apex, or any Garrett AT series detector. AT owners need the AT version of the 6.5 x 9 in coil, which is a different part. Other coils and parts are in our metal detector search coils collection.

Where the 6.5 x 9 in coil works well, and where it does not

• Parks, yards and beachfronts: Garrett sizes this coil for parks, fields and beachfronts, and the open cover suits sandy, wet ground.
• Water's edge: the coil can be submerged, but Garrett ACE control boxes are not waterproof. Keep the control box dry and out of rain and splashes.
• Mineralized ground and wet salt sand: a concentric coil is more affected by ground mineralization than a DD coil. If you hunt red clay, iron-rich soil or wet salt sand often, the ACE 400's stock DD coil or Garrett's ACE 5 x 8 in DD coil is the better choice.
• Dense trash: for heavy iron or tight trash, the smaller ACE 5 x 8 in DD separates targets better than the 6.5 x 9 in concentric.
