Garrett ACE 7 x 10 in Concentric Coil Kit with Open Cover, Lower Rod and Hardware

The Garrett ACE 7 x 10 in Open Cover Coil Kit puts Garrett's PROformance concentric searchcoil (part 2223200) on its own lower rod with mounting hardware and an open-frame coil cover, the cover to pick when your ground is sand, mud or water. The 7 x 10 in concentric is the stock coil on the ACE 300 and Garrett lists it for all standard ACE detectors, from the ACE 150 to the ACE 400. It is the mid-size ACE coil: more sweep than the 6.5 x 9 in, lighter and handier than the 9 x 12 in.

Why this kit has an open coil cover

An open-frame cover follows the spokes and outer ring of the coil, the surfaces that actually scrape on gravel, roots and rock, and leaves the coil's openings clear. Sand, mud and water fall through instead of packing in between a solid cover and the coil face, so the coil does not gain weight through a beach hunt and you are not prying the cover off to rinse every time. Who the Garrett ACE 7 x 10 in open-cover kit is for

• Beach and creek hunters on any ACE: the drainage of the open cover plus a submersible coil makes this the kit for wet ground.
• ACE 300 owners: a like-for-like spare for the stock coil of the Garrett ACE 300, kept on its own rod so it swaps at the shaft.
• ACE 150, 200 and 250 owners: a wider sweep than the 6.5 x 9 in coil those detectors ship with, for open fields and beaches.
• ACE 400 owners: a second coil for iron-heavy parks beside the stock 8.5 x 11 in DD of the Garrett ACE 400.

Not for the Garrett ACE Apex: Garrett states the standard ACE coils are not for use with the Apex Multi-Flex detectors. And if nearly all of your hunting is wet salt sand or hot mineralized ground, one of Garrett's ACE DD coils will run quieter than any concentric.

Key features and what they mean in use

• Open-frame cover, fitted: protects the contact surfaces, drains the rest. Rinse the coil with fresh water after salt and it is ready for the next trip.
• Own lower rod and hardware: the coil stays bolted and cabled. Swapping coils is a lower rod pulled from the shaft and another pushed in, not a bolt, two washers and a cable to re-route.
• Concentric winding: a cone-shaped field centered under the coil, so pinpointing is quick and iron reads clearly. Garrett describes the concentric design as ideal for ignoring bottle caps and other iron trash.
• 7 x 10 in semi-elliptical: covers a wide swath per sweep and still fits between obstacles.
• Submersible coil: Garrett's ACE owner's manual states the searchcoil is submersible; the control housing and connectors are not.

Compatibility

Fits: Garrett ACE 150 (discontinued), ACE 200, ACE 250, ACE 300, ACE 350 (discontinued) and ACE 400.

Does not fit: the ACE Apex, or any Garrett AT series detector; those use their own coil connectors. All ACE and AT coils are in our metal detector search coils collection.

Where the open-cover 7 x 10 in kit works well, and where it does not

• Dry sand and damp sand above the waterline: the best fit for this kit. Wide coverage, sand drains, coil can be rinsed in place.
• Water's edge and shallow creeks: the coil can go under; keep the control box dry and out of spray, as Garrett's manual warns.
• Parks and fields with iron trash: works well; the concentric field identifies iron reliably.
• Wet salt sand at the surf line and mineralized ground: a concentric coil runs noisier here than a DD. Expect to drop sensitivity.
• Dense trash: a smaller coil such as the 4.5 in Sniper separates close targets better.

How the 7 x 10 in coil differs from other Garrett ACE coils

Against the 6.5 x 9 in concentric: this coil sweeps wider, the 6.5 x 9 in is handier in tight spots. Against the 9 x 12 in concentric: this gives up some coverage for an easier swing. Against the 5 x 8 in and 8.5 x 11 in DD coils: the concentric pinpoints more easily and handles iron trash well, the DDs are steadier on mineralized ground and wet salt sand.
