The Garrett ACE 7 x 10 in PROformance Concentric Search Coil (PN 2223200) is the mid-size, semi-elliptical concentric coil Garrett ships as standard on the Garrett ACE 300. Garrett lists it as compatible with all standard ACE detectors. It suits ACE owners who want a replacement or spare for the stock coil, or who are running a smaller 6.5 x 9 in coil and want more coverage per sweep without moving up to a heavy, oversized coil.
Who the Garrett ACE 7 x 10 in concentric coil is for
This coil fits ACE owners who hunt parks, yards, fields and dry sand for coins, jewelry and relics. Garrett describes the concentric design as "ideal for ignoring bottle caps and other iron trash." That makes it a good everyday coil for sites where iron is the main nuisance.
Look at a different coil if you own a Garrett ACE Apex. Garrett states that this coil does not work with the ACE Apex Multi-Flex detectors. Apex owners need the Multi-Flex coils in our Garrett ACE Apex collection. If you hunt heavily mineralized ground or wet salt sand, a DD coil is usually the better choice. Garrett makes 5 x 8 in and 8.5 x 11 in PROformance DD coils for the ACE, and you can compare them in our metal detector search coils collection.
Key features and what they mean in the field
- Concentric winding: The detection field is cone shaped and centered under the coil, so pinpointing is straightforward. The coil also reads iron well, which helps you pass on nails and bottle caps.
- 7 x 10 in semi-elliptical shape: A middle ground between the 6.5 x 9 in stock coil on the ACE 200 and the larger 9 x 12 in concentric. It covers more ground per sweep than the smaller coil but is still easy to work between obstacles.
- Submersible: The ACE 300 owner's manual states the searchcoil is submersible. You can hunt shallow fresh water or wet sand at the water's edge with the coil under water.
- PROformance series: This is Garrett's current line of ACE coils. It is the same family as the stock coils on current ACE detectors.
What is in the box
- Garrett ACE 7 x 10 in PROformance concentric search coil with attached cable
Not included: a coil cover, lower rod or detector. A coil cover protects the bottom of the coil from scrapes on rock and gravel, and we recommend fitting one. We also list this coil as a package with a cover, lower rod and mounting hardware. See the full list of parts for your detector in our Garrett collection.
Compatibility
Garrett lists this coil for all standard ACE detectors. It fits:
- Garrett ACE 150 (discontinued)
- Garrett ACE 200
- Garrett ACE 250
- Garrett ACE 300 (ships with this coil as standard)
- Garrett ACE 350 (discontinued)
- Garrett ACE 400
It does not fit the Garrett ACE Apex or the Garrett AT series. Those detectors use their own coil connectors.
Where the 7 x 10 in concentric coil works well, and where it does not
- Parks and yards with iron trash: A strong fit. The concentric field identifies iron reliably.
- Open fields and dry sand beaches: Works well. You get more coverage per sweep than with the 6.5 x 9 in coil.
- Shallow fresh water: The coil is submersible, but the ACE control housing and connectors are not. Garrett's manual warns to protect the housing from heavy mist, rain and blowing surf.
- Wet salt sand and mineralized ground: Not this coil's strength. A concentric coil is more affected by ground mineralization than a DD coil, so expect a noisier, less stable signal there.
- Very trashy spots: In dense trash, a smaller coil such as the 4.5 in Super Sniper separates targets that sit close together better.
How it differs from the closest Garrett ACE coils
Compared with the 6.5 x 9 in PROformance concentric, the 7 x 10 in covers a wider swath per sweep, while the smaller coil is handier in tight spots. Compared with the 9 x 12 in concentric, the 7 x 10 in gives up some coverage but is easier to control on long hunts and in brushy ground. Compared with the 5 x 8 in and 8.5 x 11 in DD coils, the concentric pinpoints more easily and handles iron trash well, while the DD coils are the better choice for mineralized ground and wet salt sand. Our metal detector coil guide explains concentric and DD designs in more detail.
