The Garrett 8.5 x 11 in PROformance DD Raider is the standard general-purpose search coil for the Garrett AT Pro, AT Max and AT Gold. It is a Double-D, semi-elliptical, open-frame coil, fully waterproof, and it ships with a matching coil cover. Part number 2222400.
Who this coil is for
This is the coil to buy if you own an AT Pro or AT Max and need to replace a worn or damaged stock coil, or if you own an AT Gold and want more ground coverage and depth than its stock 5 x 8 in DD coil gives in open fields and on beaches. It is also the right spare to keep in the bag so a cracked coil does not end a trip.
If most of your hunting is in trashy parks, tot lots or tight relic sites, the smaller Garrett AT 5 x 8 in DD coil separates close targets better and is easier to work around obstacles. If you want maximum depth in clean open ground, the Garrett 14 x 11 in DD Reaper covers more ground per swing. Both are in our search coil collection.
What the Double-D design does in use
- Stable in mineralized ground and on salt sand. The two overlapping D-shaped windings see a narrow blade of ground rather than a cone, so the detector stays quieter on iron-rich soil and wet saltwater beaches than a concentric coil of the same size.
- Good target separation for its size. The narrow detection field helps pick a coin out next to a nail where a concentric coil would mask it.
- Depth on coin-sized and larger targets. At 8.5 x 11 in this is the mid-size AT coil: more depth and coverage than the 5 x 8 in, more manageable than the 14 x 11 in on long sessions.
- Open-frame build. Lighter and easier to swing through water than a closed coil, and sand and water drain out of the center.
Waterproof
The whole coil can be submerged. The limit on an AT Pro or AT Max is the control box, which Garrett rates to 10 ft (3 m), so the coil is not what stops you going deeper.
