The Gold Magic 12-10 is a spiral gold panning machine, often called a gold wheel, that does the panning for you: dump classified material onto the turning 17" spiral pan and the riffles walk the gold to the centre while the lighter sand rolls off. This kit is the ready-to-run version. It adds the 12-volt battery and charger, the wet separation tub, a finishing pan and a large scoop, so you can work a bucket of concentrates the day it arrives without hunting for a car battery.

Who the 12-10 kit is for

It is for prospectors who bring concentrates home, or run a sluice or dredge on site, and want a faster, more consistent cleanup than hand panning. If you mostly pan a few scoops at the creek, a good pan is still quicker to set up. If you already own a 12-volt battery and tub, the Gold Magic 10M wheel gets you the same spiral pan without the extras. Where the 12-10 stands apart from most spiral wheels is that it runs dry as well as wet, so desert prospectors can concentrate material where there is no water, then finish it wet at home. See the rest of our gold wheels and spiral panning machines to compare capacities.

    How it works in practice

Set the machine on its stand, in the tub for wet running or on any level surface for dry, and switch it on; setup takes under a minute. The 17" pan has 69 agitation knobs moulded into the spirals that break up clumps and keep material moving, and the wheel takes feed up to 2 inches, so you can skip pre-screening on most material. In wet mode it works the material all the way down to clean gold. In dry mode it is a concentrator: Gold Magic rates it at 140 lb of material an hour, roughly two 5-gallon buckets, reduced to about two cups of concentrates that you finish wet. It recovers fine flour gold from black sand as well as pickers and small nuggets, which is the main reason to own one instead of a pan. There is no pump to prime and no hose, and the whole unit weighs about 10 lb with the battery, so it packs into the tub for the truck.

Does the Gold Magic 12-10 work without water?

Yes. The Gold Magic 12-10 is one of the few spiral wheels that runs dry. In dry mode it works as a concentrator, taking about 140 lb of material an hour down to roughly two cups of heavy concentrates, which you then finish wet in the included tub or a pan. That makes it practical for desert prospecting where hauling water is not an option. For wet-only wheels and larger capacities, compare the rest of our gold wheels and spiral panning machines.

What is the difference between the Gold Magic 12-10 kit and the 10M?

The spiral pan and motor are the same; the difference is what comes in the box. The 12-10 kit includes the 12-volt battery with built-in charger, the wet separation tub, a finishing pan and a large scoop, so it runs out of the box. The Gold Magic 10M is the wheel on its own for prospectors who already have a 12 V battery and tub. If this is your first spiral wheel, the kit is the simpler buy.

Do I need to classify material before running it through the Gold Magic?

Not for most material. The 12-10 accepts feed up to 2 inches and the 69 agitation knobs on the pan break up clumps as it turns, so you can shovel bucket material straight in. Classifying to half an inch first still helps if you are chasing fine gold, because it keeps big rocks from bouncing the fines off the spirals. Our gold prospecting equipment collection has classifiers that stack on a 5-gallon bucket for that job.
