The Groundtech IQ Detect is a compact pulse induction (PI) metal detector for scuba divers and shallow water hunters, with a fixed 5.5 inch (14 cm) coil and IP69 waterproofing that Groundtech rates to 30 meters (98 feet). Groundtech calls it a professional metal detector and a reliable exploration tool for divers, built for underwater and saltwater environments, with a fast balancing system, three sensitivity levels, a 6-level LED signal indicator and audible, vibration and visual alerts.

Pulse induction for salt water

The IQ Detect runs a pulse induction circuit, which Groundtech lists at 675 Hz, and Groundtech describes it as built for superior performance in underwater and saltwater environments. Detection covers 360 degrees around the head. The fixed 5.5 inch (14 cm) coil is sealed into the unit, so there is no coil cable to snag or flood.

Balancing, sensitivity and alerts

The IQ Detect calibrates itself when you switch it on, and a short press of the power button balances it again to the conditions around you. Three sensitivity levels cover different conditions: Low for indoor use or highly mineralized and saltwater ground, Medium as the standard setting and High for maximum reach. The 6-level LED signal indicator climbs as you close in and lights all six when the coil is centered over the target, and you can choose audio, vibration or both.

Dive Mode, Ghost Mode and the flashlight

Groundtech rates the IQ Detect IP69 and submersible to 30 meters (98 feet). Dive Mode locks the buttons so water pressure does not trigger them on a dive, and Ghost Mode switches to silent, vibration-only operation. A built-in flashlight helps in dark water and holes, and if the IQ Detect sits idle for 3 minutes, the Lost Alarm sounds and flashes so you can find it. Care

Never unscrew the rear cap while the IQ Detect is wet or submerged. Before every dive, check that the O-ring is clean, grease-free and intact and that the rear cap is fully tightened. Rinse it with fresh tap water after use in salt water or mud, and keep thinners and harsh chemicals away from it.
