Minelab M8 Coil Cover (Skidplate) for Manticore 8 x 5.5 in DD Coil

The Minelab M8 Coil Cover (part 3011-0475) is the genuine Minelab skidplate for the Manticore M8 8 x 5.5 in elliptical Double-D coil. It snaps over the underside of the coil and takes the scrapes from rock, gravel, roots and wet sand so the coil housing underneath does not. The M8 coil ships with a skidplate already fitted, so this listing is the replacement for when that original cover wears through, cracks or goes missing.

Who this cover is for

Manticore owners running the M8 coil who hunt rocky ground, gravel parks, cellar holes or shell beaches, where the factory skidplate wears fastest. It is also the part to order if you bought a used M8 coil that came without its cover.

This cover fits the M8 coil only. If your Manticore runs the M9 round coil, the M11 stock coil or the M15 large elliptical coil, you need the matching cover for that coil. All four Manticore coil covers are in the Minelab Manticore collection.

What it does in use

• Sacrificial wear surface: the cover scuffs and thins instead of the coil. Treat it as a consumable and replace it when it wears through at the toe or edge.
• Same size as the coil face: the M8 is a small, light coil (390 g with the skidplate on) chosen for tight, trashy sites, and the cover keeps that low profile.
• Keeps resale value: an M8 coil that has always worn a cover shows a clean housing when you sell or trade it.

Compatibility

• Fits: Minelab Manticore M8 8 x 5.5 in DD coil (coil part 3011-0422).
• Does not fit: Manticore M9, M11 or M15 coils, or any Equinox, X-Terra or Vanquish coil. Minelab sizes each skidplate to one coil shell, so there is no cross-fit.

Where it works well and where it does not

The cover earns its keep on abrasive ground: gravel, bedrock, coral and shell beds, and dry desert washes. On soft grass or clean sand it wears slowly and mostly guards against the occasional rock. In wet sand and saltwater the cover protects the coil as normal, but sand and salt collect between the cover and the coil. Pop it off and rinse both parts with fresh water after a beach hunt so grit does not grind the housing from the inside.

How it differs from the other Manticore coil covers

The M8, M9, M11 and M15 covers are the same idea in four shell sizes. The M8 cover is the smallest and lightest of the four, matching the 8 x 5.5 in elliptical M8 coil.
