Minelab V10 Skidplate 3011-0412 for V10 & V10X 10x7 Coils

The Minelab V10 skidplate (part 3011-0412) is the replacement cover for the bottom of the Minelab V10 10 x 7 in Double-D coil, and it fits the V10X coil of the same size. A skidplate is the sacrificial layer between the coil and the ground: it takes the scratches from rocks, roots, shell and sand so the coil shell does not. This is the part to buy when the one that came with the coil has worn through or cracked.

Which coil and detector it fits

• V10 10 x 7 in DD coil, the stock coil on the earlier Minelab Vanquish 340 and 440
• V10X 10 x 7 in DD coil, as sold for the Vanquish 460, Vanquish 560, X-Terra Pro and X-Terra Elite

It does not fit the V8 or V8X 8 x 5 in coil, which takes the Minelab V8 skidplate, or the V12 or V12X 12 x 9 in coil, which takes the V12 skidplate. Check the size printed on the top of your coil before you order. All three are in our metal detector parts and accessories collection.

What it does in use

• Protects the coil shell. Gravel, roots and beach shell scuff the skidplate instead of the coil. A worn-through plate exposes the coil bottom, which is when the coil itself starts to take damage.
• Smoother sweep. The plate's flat underside slides over grass and sand with less snagging than a bare coil, which matters when you keep the coil on the ground for depth.
• Light. It adds very little to the swing weight of a 10 x 7 in coil, so there is no reason to run without one.

Fitting

The skidplate clips over the edge of the coil with no tools or hardware. Our advice: pull it off every few trips and rinse out the sand and grit that collects between plate and coil, because trapped grit scratches the coil and can throw off the ground balance on wet-sand beaches. Snap it back on dry.
