The Minelab V12X is a 12 x 9 in elliptical Double-D search coil (part 3011-0459), waterproof to 5 m (16 ft), that fits the Minelab X-Terra Pro, X-Terra Elite and the current Vanquish 360, 460 and 560. It is the coil Minelab ships on the Minelab X-Terra Pro and the Minelab Vanquish 560, so it also serves as their direct replacement. It suits detectorists who want the most ground coverage per swing on fields, beaches and open parks.

Who the Minelab V12X Is For

The V12X is for owners of the Minelab Vanquish 360 or Vanquish 460 who want a bigger coil than the 10 x 7 in V10X their detector ships with. It is also for X-Terra Pro, X-Terra Elite and Vanquish 560 owners who need to replace a damaged or lost coil.

Look at a smaller coil if you mostly hunt trashy parks, old house sites full of nails, or tight spots between roots and rocks. The V10X and the 8 x 5 in V8X separate targets better there. If you own an original Vanquish 340, 440 or 540, the V12X is not the right coil. Those detectors use the earlier non-waterproof V12, and we stock it in our metal detector search coils collection.

Compatibility

• Fits: Minelab X-Terra Pro, X-Terra Elite, Vanquish 360, Vanquish 460 and Vanquish 560
• Does not fit: the original Vanquish 340, 440 and 540, which use the non-X V8, V10 and V12 coils. It also does not fit Equinox, Manticore, X-Terra 705 or older X-Terra models.

Where the V12X Works Well and Where It Does Not

Open fields and pastures

On plowed fields, pastures and spread-out homestead sites, the V12X covers acreage faster than the smaller X coils and gives you a better chance at larger and deeper targets. The DD winding helps keep target IDs steady on mineralized farm soils.

Beaches and shallow water

The wide sweep covers more dry and wet sand while the tide is out, and the coil is waterproof to 5 m (16 ft), the same as the detectors it fits. Rinse the coil and connector with fresh water after a saltwater hunt.

Where to choose a smaller coil

In trashy parks, schoolyards and iron-heavy house sites, a 12 x 9 in coil can see a good target and a piece of trash at the same time and mask the good one. The V10X or V8X separates them better and is easier to work into tight spots. The larger coil also adds some weight at the end of the shaft, which you notice on long sessions.

How the V12X Compares With the V10X and V8X

• V12X, 12 x 9 in DD: the largest X coil. Most coverage per swing. Standard on the X-Terra Pro and Vanquish 560.
• V10X, 10 x 7 in DD: the middle size, standard on the Vanquish 360 and 460. A good compromise between coverage and target separation.
• V8X, 8 x 5 in DD: the smallest. Best for heavy trash, tight spots and pinpoint work.
