Why these add-ons are in this Minelab VANQUISH 560 PRO-PACK bundle
Second coil and earbuds: the PRO-PACK itself adds the V8X 8 x 5 inch coil to the standard VANQUISH 560 and swaps the wired headphones for ML60 Bluetooth LE Audio earbuds. The V12X covers open ground; the V8X helps isolate closely spaced targets around foundations and in heavy iron. The earbuds suit anyone who prefers wireless detecting; ordinary Bluetooth headphones are not compatible, because the VANQUISH 560 supports only Bluetooth LE Audio with the LC3 codec.
PRO-FIND 40 pinpointer: once the VANQUISH 560 gives a signal, in our experience a handheld pinpointer finds the target in the hole faster than the detector's own pinpoint function and 5-level depth indicator, which Minelab calls a guide only. Minelab gives the PRO-FIND 40 five sensitivity levels and a flashlight and rates it waterproof to 3 meters (10 feet), less than the detector's 5 meters, so keep that in mind in deeper water. Minelab warrants it for 24 months.
Carry bag: Minelab describes its Universal Metal Detector Carry Bag as spacious and robust; it keeps the detector together on the way to the park or beach. The VANQUISH 560 collapses to 79.5 cm (31.2 inches).
About the Minelab VANQUISH 560 PRO-PACK
What we like about the VANQUISH 560 is that it gives you more control over target information without making you learn a complicated detector. In our experience the PRO-PACK makes the most sense for someone who regularly searches different environments, such as large farm fields one weekend and old homesites the next, and wants both coils from the start. It suits experienced beginners, regular coin hunters and people who search historical sites full of iron, without moving into a substantially more expensive detector such as the Minelab EQUINOX 900 or the Minelab MANTICORE.
Multi-IQ processes multiple frequencies simultaneously, and Minelab puts it in all three VANQUISH 60 Series models, so the 560 is not a fundamentally different detector from the Minelab VANQUISH 360 and Minelab VANQUISH 460. Minelab publishes no frequency values and no single-frequency option. We would not promise that the 560 finds targets the 460 cannot; the advantage is more audio information and more flexibility with iron.
Minelab VANQUISH 560 search modes and key settings
- Five target tones: the 560 divides the Target ID range into five tones where the 360 and 460 use three. In an older park with aluminum trash, modern coins, older coins and the occasional piece of jewelry, five tones help you hear differences without looking at the display all the time. A gold ring can still sound like aluminum trash.
- Ferrous volume (1 to 10): sets how loud iron targets sound, separately from the main volume (default 4). Around an old farmhouse full of rusty nails you can keep iron quiet instead of rejecting it, so you still hear where iron concentrations show old activity. We would start with a relatively low setting.
- Iron Bias (-1, 0, 1, 2): controls how the detector classifies a mixed iron and non-ferrous response, such as a coin next to a rusty nail. Minelab's default is 2 in Park, Beach and the User Profile and 0 in Field. The extra -1 setting is the least aggressive; it suits an old homesite where you are willing to dig more questionable signals, while a higher setting usually makes for a more enjoyable hunt in a modern park full of bottle caps.
- Park, Field and Beach, plus a User Profile: Park is Minelab's mode for parks and freshwater, with a lower recovery speed. Minelab gives Field mode enhanced sensitivity to fine metal relics and unmasking of targets among dense ancient iron trash, with a higher recovery speed and a lower Iron Bias. Beach mode gives residual salt a Target ID of 0 and tracks the ground automatically. The User Profile is the only mode that keeps its changes after power-off, and the All Metal button switches discrimination off.
- Discrimination and ground balance: 119 Target IDs (-19 to 99) in 30 segments of four IDs each, accepted or rejected per segment. Ground balance runs from -9 to 99 with an Auto Ground Balance you start yourself, and Minelab says it should rarely be needed.
- Sensitivity (1 to 10), noise cancel and extras: noise cancel runs automatically at every power-on. Near power lines more sensitivity makes random signals worse, so set it where the detector runs reasonably quietly. A red display backlight, keypad backlight, flashlight and handgrip vibration round it out.
Beach and water hunting with the Minelab VANQUISH 560 PRO-PACK
Minelab rates the VANQUISH 560 IP68, submersible to 5 meters (16 feet), so it works on dry sand, wet sand and in shallow water at lakes, rivers and ocean beaches within that rating. The V12X coil suits broad stretches of fairly clean beach. On ocean beaches, Multi-IQ and Beach mode help manage wet salt sand, but we would not promise that the 560 matches every premium beach detector: difficult mineralization, black sand and electrical interference can still affect it. In our experience wireless audio is not a reliable option underwater; for underwater detecting, Minelab specifies its 3.5 mm waterproof headphones (part 3011-0372), and the socket can go underwater with its dust cap fitted. Do not take the detector underwater while it is charging or running from a power bank. See our beach metal detectors.
Minelab VANQUISH 560 PRO-PACK battery, weight and build
Minelab's manual and brochure list the VANQUISH 560 at 1.26 kg (2.8 lb). The aluminum and fiberglass S-bend shafts extend to 142 cm (56 inches) and collapse to 79.5 cm (31.2 inches). The built-in 3.7 V, 4500 mAh lithium-ion battery gives approximately 10 hours of use, less with the backlight or flashlight on, and takes about 7 hours to charge from flat. Besides the V12X and V8X in the box, Minelab lists the V10X, EQX 06, EQX 11 and EQX 15 as supported coils. See our metal detector coils.
Where the Minelab VANQUISH 560 PRO-PACK works well, and where it does not
Someone who spends several hours every weekend on old properties, farm fields and heavily hunted parks is the one most likely to appreciate the 560's extra control, and the second coil is what makes the PRO-PACK worth a look for that kind of mixed detecting. If you mainly search parks, yards and the occasional beach, the 360 or 460 may give you everything you need. If you regularly hunt demanding ocean beaches, we would also look at the Minelab EQUINOX 900. The 560 finds gold jewelry, and Minelab says Beach mode lets low-conductive targets such as gold chains be detected, but there is no gold mode; for natural gold, see our gold detectors.
One mistake to avoid with the Minelab VANQUISH 560 PRO-PACK
The mistake we would warn beginners about is assuming that more audio information makes every target easier to identify. A deep coin can give an inconsistent ID, and a good target sitting near iron can give a complicated response. Listen for repeatable signals, check targets from different directions and do not rely entirely on the display.
Minelab VANQUISH 460, 560 or 560 PRO-PACK
Over the 460, the 560 adds five target tones instead of three, a fourth Iron Bias setting (-1), adjustable ferrous volume and the V12X 12 x 9 inch coil instead of the V10X 10 x 7 inch. The detector in the standard VANQUISH 560 and the PRO-PACK is the same; the difference is the accessories. We would not recommend the PRO-PACK automatically to everyone: someone who mainly searches beaches or open fields may be perfectly happy with the standard 560 and its V12X coil and wired headphones, which are also in our Minelab VANQUISH 560 collection.
