The Nokta Double Score with Nokta Bluetooth aptX Low Latency headphones is built for someone who expects to detect a lot and likes learning the equipment. The headphones bring quiet signals closer when other people are nearby, with low latency between the detector and your ears. Over the Score it adds adjustable ground balance, iron filter, notch, recovery speed and two user profiles, which leaves room to grow into old homesteads, relic ground and tougher soil.

What the add-ons in this Nokta Double Score bundle do
Nokta Bluetooth aptX Low Latency headphones: the Double Score has Bluetooth built in and shows a separate icon when it connects with aptX Low Latency. Headphones let you hear target responses without the external speaker when other people are nearby and make quieter signals easier to recognize, and low latency reduces the delay between the detector's response and what you hear. Nokta's headphone manual gives them Bluetooth 5.0 and a range of 10 meters (33 feet), and Nokta's detector manual says they shut down after 14 minutes without sound to save power. You can also set the detector to play through the speaker and the headphones together. Nokta's headphone manual says they are not waterproof, so leave them on shore when the detector goes under. See our metal detector headphones.
About the Nokta Double Score
What we appreciate about the Nokta Double Score is that it keeps the Score's straightforward simultaneous multi-frequency (SMF) platform and adds controls that become genuinely useful as you gain experience: adjustable recovery speed, ground balance, iron filter, notch and user profiles. In parks and on beaches those may not seem essential at first, but once the interest turns to old farmsteads and abandoned homesites, the extra adjustment earns its place. The Double Score gives you more control than the Score without the advanced audio and relic options of the Triple Score Pro Pack. It does not detect deeper than the Score simply because it has more settings; the advantage is adapting the detector to the conditions.
SMF processes several frequencies at the same time, a versatile starting point for targets from small jewelry to larger coins and useful on saltwater beaches. Nokta's manual recommends Multi in all modes. Park and Field mode also offer a single 15 kHz frequency and three Multi settings (M1 favors high conductors, M2 low conductors, M3 wet or conductive soil), and Nokta recommends M3 in Park mode for trashy sites. Beach mode runs Multi only.
Nokta Double Score search modes and key settings
- Recovery speed (1 to 3): around an old farmhouse a coin can sit a few inches from a nail, and a faster setting helps separate closely spaced targets; in a clean field, a slower one may preserve stronger responses from deeper targets. We would not run the fastest setting everywhere.
- Ground balance (Automatic, Manual, Tracking): on mineralized ground the detector can start responding to the ground itself. Automatic sets a value quickly, Manual lets you adjust it, and Tracking helps when conditions change as you move; in consistent ground we would not leave Tracking on. Beach mode adds a Stability adjustment from -1 to -5.
- Iron filter (0 to 9) and notch: the iron filter works in Multi only (1 to 9 in Beach mode). Raising it may quiet misleading iron, but a brass button next to a rusty nail can give a mixed response that an aggressive setting rejects, so on difficult historical sites we would try lower settings, even if you dig more iron. Notch accepts or rejects target IDs two at a time; jewelry, brass and aluminum can share IDs, so use it selectively.
- Sensitivity (1 to 10) and two user profiles: finer steps near electrical interference, where we recommend the highest setting that stays stable, and two saved setups, such as a modern park and an old farm property. Neither adds depth.
- Deep Target Identification (0 to 6): lets certain deep non-ferrous targets that would otherwise read as iron be identified as non-ferrous. Higher values may reduce stability, so we would not start at the top setting.
- Target ID and audio: IDs from 1 to 60, four discrimination patterns (All Metal, Ground Off, Ferrous Off, Custom), factory-set tones (three in Park, two in Field and Beach), vibration, backlight, LED flashlight and built-in Bluetooth with aptX Low Latency.
Beach and water hunting with the Nokta Double Score
Nokta rates the Double Score IP68, dust tight and fully submersible to 5 meters (16 feet), covering the control box and the SC30 waterproof coil. On a coastal beach the sand turns wet and conductive toward the water; SMF and Beach mode are designed for it, Beach mode warns you about black sand, and ground balance adjustments help when conditions get difficult. We would begin with the factory Beach settings and adjust only when necessary. Nokta's Bluetooth headphones are not waterproof, and Nokta makes waterproof headphones for underwater audio. Keep the shared headphone and charging socket closed with its screw cap, and never take the detector underwater on a power bank. See our beach metal detectors.
Where the Nokta Double Score works well, and where it does not
Parks, fields, beaches and historical sites all suit the Double Score. On an abandoned farmstead full of nails, brass, lead and the occasional coin, you can raise recovery speed around dense iron, lower the iron filter on questionable signals and ground balance when the soil gets harder. It cannot reliably detect every good target hidden among iron; iron masking remains a challenge. See more relic and treasure metal detectors. For advanced audio and relic controls, the Nokta Triple Score Pro Pack adds Relic mode, five recovery speed steps, 4 and 20 kHz frequencies, adjustable tones and bottle cap rejection. The Double Score's modes are Park, Field and Beach, with no gold prospecting mode.
Nokta Double Score battery, weight and build
Nokta lists the Double Score at 1.2 kg (2.6 lb) including the search coil, with carbon fiber upper and lower shafts adjusting from 63 to 132 cm (25 to 52 inches); carbon fiber helps comfort on a long day in a big field but does not change detection. The built-in 3250 mAh lithium polymer battery lasts 5 to 12 hours depending on frequency, audio, backlight and flashlight, charges in about 3 to 4 hours from a 5 V 2 A USB adapter, and is replaced only by Nokta or an authorized service center. The SC30 12 x 9 inch coil suits parks, fields and beaches; on an old homesite full of iron, Nokta's smaller SC24 (9.5 x 6 inches) also fits and isolates closely spaced targets.
One mistake to avoid with the Nokta Double Score
The mistake we caution new owners against is changing several settings at once. Over a questionable signal near an old foundation you raise recovery speed, change the iron filter, adjust sensitivity and redo the ground balance; the signal changes, but you do not know which adjustment caused it. Begin with the factory settings, then change one setting at a time.
