The Nokta 17000228 is the original, thicker version of the 9.5 x 5 in coil cover for the Nokta Gold Kruzer's GK24 elliptical search coil. It snaps onto the bottom of the coil and takes the wear from rocks, gravel and roots so the coil housing does not. Nokta later replaced it with a slimmer version, the 17000255 slim coil cover, which adds less bulk to the coil.
Who the original thick cover is for
- Gold Kruzer owners with the 9.5 x 5 in GK24 coil who need a replacement cover and want the original, heavier-walled design.
- Prospectors in rough ground: scraping a coil across rock and gravel wears through a cover over time, and a thicker cover has more material to wear before it needs replacing.
If you would rather keep the coil as light and low as possible, the slim 17000255 is Nokta's current version for the same coil.

Does not fit: the Gold Kruzer's other coils (GK19 7.5 x 4 in, GK26C 10 x 5.5 in concentric and GK40 15.5 x 13 in). Each of those has its own cover.
Using and replacing the cover
A plastic cover adds only a small gap between the coil and the ground. After fitting a new one, ground balance the Gold Kruzer again before you hunt. Pop the cover off now and then to clear out packed dirt and sand, which add weight and can make the cover sit loosely. Once a cover is worn thin at the toe or heel, replace it: a cover costs far less than a coil.
