The Nokta LG35 is a 13.5 x 12.5 in (35 x 31.5 cm) waterproof Double-D search coil made for the original Nokta Legend. It is the largest coil Nokta offers for the Legend. A wider footprint covers more ground with each swing, and the DD design handles mineralized soil. The LG35 suits Legend owners who hunt open farm fields, wide beaches and other sites where depth and coverage matter more than squeezing between trash.

Who the Nokta LG35 is for

The LG35 is for Legend owners who spend most of their time on big, open, low-trash ground: plowed fields, pastures, fairgrounds, old homestead sites, and long stretches of beach. Covering more ground per swing means fewer passes to grid a site.

Look at a different coil if you hunt trashy parks, old house sites full of iron, or tight spots between roots and rocks. For those, the Legend's LG30 12 x 9 in DD coil (standard on the Legend WHP and Pro Pack) or the smaller LG24 and LG15 coils separate targets better. If you own a Nokta Legend 2, Nokta lists a separate LD coil series for that detector, with the LD38 15 x 12 in as its large coil. The LG35 is listed for the original Legend only.

Key features and what they mean in use

    • 13.5 x 12.5 in (35 x 31.5 cm) footprint: each swing covers a wider strip than the LG30, so gridding a field or a beach takes fewer passes.
    • Double-D (DD) winding: DD coils hold up well on mineralized ground such as wet salt sand, red clay and iron-rich soil, which lets you keep sensitivity up where a concentric coil gets noisy.
    • Waterproof coil: the LG35 is a waterproof coil for the Legend, so wet sand, the surf line, rain and creek crossings are all fair game. Your working depth is set by the Legend itself, which Nokta rates as submersible to 16 ft (5 m).
    • Works with the Legend's frequencies: the LG35 runs on the Legend's multi-frequency modes and single frequencies of 4, 10, 15, 20 and 40 kHz like any Legend coil, so you keep your usual search modes when you swap coils.
    • Coil cover and mounting hardware included: you can fit the coil to your Legend's lower shaft and protect the bottom from sand and rock wear straight out of the box.

    What is in the box

    • Nokta LG35 13.5 x 12.5 in waterproof DD search coil (part 17000173)
    • Coil cover
    • Coil mounting hardware

The detector is not included. The LG35 is an add-on or replacement coil for a Legend you already own.

    Compatibility

    • Fits: Nokta Legend (the original Legend, including the WHP and Pro Pack packages)
    • Not listed by Nokta for: Nokta Legend 2, Simplex, Score series or FindX. Those detectors have their own coil lines.

A replacement LG35 coil cover is sold separately if the original wears through. You can find it with the other Legend coils and parts in our Nokta Legend collection.

Where the LG35 works well and where it does not

    Open fields and relic sites

On plowed fields, pastures and spread-out homestead or camp sites, the LG35's footprint lets you cover acreage faster and gives you a better chance at larger, deeper targets. The DD coil helps keep target ID steady on mineralized farm soils.

    Beaches and shallow water

On wet sand and in the surf line, the wide sweep covers more beach while the tide is out, and the DD design copes with salt sand. Rinse the coil and connector with fresh water after a saltwater hunt.

Where to choose a smaller coil

In trashy parks, schoolyards and iron-heavy house sites, a large coil sees several targets at once and masks good ones next to trash. Small or very thin targets such as fine jewelry also tend to respond better to a smaller coil. The LG35's larger size also adds weight at the end of the shaft, which you will feel by the end of a long session.

How the LG35 compares with other Nokta Legend coils

    • LG35, 13.5 x 12.5 in DD: the largest Legend coil. Most coverage per swing, for open ground and beaches.
    • LG30, 12 x 9 in DD: the coil on the Legend WHP and Pro Pack. A good all-round size for mixed sites.
    • LG28, 11 in round DD: a round option between the LG30 and the smaller coils.
    • LG24, 9.5 x 6 in DD: a small elliptical for trashy parks and tight spaces.
    • LG15, 6 in DD: the smallest. Best for heavy trash, crevices and pinpoint work.

All five are waterproof DD coils listed by Nokta for the original Legend. See them all in our metal detector search coils collection, and read our metal detector coil guide for how coil size and shape change depth, coverage and separation.

Which detectors is the LG35 coil compatible with?

The LG35 coil is compatible with the original Nokta Legend, including the Legend WHP and Pro Pack packages, and Nokta lists it for that detector only. Nokta does not list it for the Legend 2, which has its own LD coil series, or for Simplex, Score, FindX or older Makro detectors. The coil installs on the Legend's lower shaft with the mounting hardware included in the box. See the full range of coils and accessories for the detector in our Nokta Legend collection.

How does the LG35 compare to the LG30 coil for depth?

Compared with the LG30 12 x 9 in coil that ships on the Legend WHP and Pro Pack, the larger 13.5 x 12.5 in LG35 is built for more depth on larger targets and wider coverage in open ground. Its wider sweep cuts the number of overlapping passes needed to grid a big site. The trade-off is target separation: the LG30 remains the better choice for trashy parks, where picking good targets out of junk matters more than raw depth. Our metal detector coil guide explains how coil size changes depth, coverage and separation.

    Answered by Dan P. · May 2026

Is the LG35 waterproof for beach and shallow-water hunting?

Yes, the LG35 is a waterproof coil, so it handles wet sand, the surf line, rain and creek crossings. Nokta does not publish a separate depth rating for the coil; the Legend itself is rated submersible to 16 ft (5 m). Rinse the coil, cable and connector with fresh water after saltwater use to prevent corrosion. The included coil cover protects the bottom of the coil from sand abrasion and rock wear. Does the larger coil size affect swing weight and balance?

Yes, the larger 13.5 x 12.5 in LG35 adds weight at the end of the shaft compared with the smaller Legend coils, and you will feel it over a long session. Nokta does not publish the LG35's weight. Keep the armrest strap snug so your forearm carries the load, take regular breaks, and keep a smaller coil such as the LG30 for long or tiring hunts. The wider footprint also needs more clearance when swinging near brush, fences or obstacles. Browse lighter options in our metal detector search coils collection.

    Answered by John W. · May 2026

What ground conditions favor the LG35 over smaller coils?

The LG35 is favored on open ground with low to moderate trash, where depth and coverage matter more than separation: farm fields, pastures, fairgrounds, spread-out homestead sites and wide beaches. Its DD configuration holds up on mineralized red clay, wet salt sand and iron-rich soils that can make concentric coils noisy. Skip the LG35 at iron-heavy home sites and busy urban parks, where the LG30 or the compact LG24 separate targets better. Our metal detector coil guide covers how to match coil size to the site.

    Answered by Richard T. · May 2026

Can I use the LG35 in all of the Legend's detection modes?

Yes, you can use the LG35 in the Legend's search modes. Nokta lists no mode or frequency limits for the coil, so it runs the Legend's multi-frequency modes and its 4, 10, 15, 20 and 40 kHz single frequencies like any other Legend coil. Sensitivity, discrimination and other settings work the same way they do with your current coil. Ground balance again after fitting the coil, then fine-tune for the ground and the targets you are hunting. Find coils and accessories for the detector in our Nokta Legend collection.

    Answered by Dan P. · May 2026

Does the LG35 improve small-gold sensitivity on the Legend?

The larger coil size is optimized for depth and coverage on coin-sized and larger targets. Detectorists hunting sub-gram gold chains, tiny earring studs, or fine jewelry will see better results with compact coils like the LG24, which concentrate the detection field for sharper response on low-conductors. The LG35 handles larger gold rings, bracelets, and coins efficiently. For dedicated gold prospecting on nuggets and flakes, explore our Nokta metal detectors lineup for models optimized for high-frequency gold hunting.

What's included in the LG35 coil package?

The LG35 package includes the 13.5 x 12.5 in waterproof DD search coil (Nokta part 17000173), a coil cover, and the coil mounting hardware for the Legend's lower shaft. The coil cover protects the bottom of the coil from scratches and wear from rocks and sand. Everything needed to fit the coil is in the box; the detector itself is not included. Replacement covers and other parts are in our Nokta Legend collection.

    Answered by John W. · May 2026

How do I install the LG35 on my Legend detector?

To install the LG35 on your Legend, remove the bolt holding your current coil to the lower shaft and slide that coil off. Line up the LG35's mounting ears with the shaft bracket, push the bolt through, and hand-tighten until the coil holds its angle but can still be adjusted. Wrap the cable around the shaft without stretching it tight, secure it with the cable straps, and connect the coil plug to the control box as shown in the Legend user manual. Everything you need is in the LG35 package. Compare other coil options in our metal detector search coils collection.

    Answered by Richard T. · May 2026

Will the LG35 work on high-mineralization ground without false signals?

The LG35's DD configuration excels on mineralized ground where concentric coils generate false signals and unstable target ID. Red clay, black sand, and iron-rich agricultural soils benefit from the DD's narrower detection pattern, which rejects broad ground signals while maintaining sensitivity to discrete metal targets. Run an auto ground balance when switching sites or if you notice chattering. Manual ground-balance adjustments let you fine-tune for extreme mineralization. Learn more about how DD geometry improves ground balance at our metal detector technologies page.

Can I use the LG35 for coin shooting in parks and schoolyards?

You can use the LG35 for coin shooting in open parks with little trash, but in typical parks and schoolyards the LG30 or the compact LG24 do better. Pull-tabs, foil and bottle caps cluster around benches and play areas, and the LG35's wide footprint sees several targets at once, which makes it harder to pick a coin out of nearby trash. Save the LG35 for big open fields, fairgrounds and low-trash sites where depth and coverage matter more than separation. Our metal detector coil guide explains why smaller coils separate targets better.
