    Best for

Highlighted icons show the targets, ground and experience level this detector is built for.

This is an open-box Minelab Excalibur II 1000, the 200-foot-rated underwater detector with the 10" coil, sold at a discount because the box has been opened. It is the same detector as our new Minelab Excalibur II 1000, and for a machine that will spend its life in salt water, a factory seal is worth less than a dealer inspection.

Condition and warranty on this open-box unit

[Condition: e.g. "Customer return, box opened, detector powered on and pressure-tested, no cosmetic wear, all factory contents present" / "Store demo unit, light handling marks on the shaft"]. Every open-box detector we sell is inspected and function-tested by our team before it is listed. [Warranty: e.g. "Covered by Minelab's 1-year manufacturer warranty from the date of your purchase" / "Covered by a 1-year Serious Detecting warranty"]. Our 30-day return policy applies exactly as it does to new stock. Open-box stock is limited to what we have on hand; see our other used and open-box metal detectors for current deals.

Open box or new: which Excalibur should you buy?

If the saving covers a side-mount shaft or a spare battery pod, open box is the better buy; the electronics are potted and sealed, so there is no wear to worry about on a lightly handled unit. Buy new if you want a sealed box for a gift or plan to resell later. If you need the 15% military rate, that is applied to the new-condition unit, not this one. Either way you get the same detector: Minelab's BBS multi-frequency transmitting 17 frequencies from 1.5 to 25.5 kHz for stable target ID in wet salt and black sand, a 200-foot (66 m) depth rating no wading detector can match, three-knob analog controls sized for gloves, and hardwired Koss headphones with no wireless link to fail under water. At 5.1 lb it is a heavy machine, and it has no display, so it suits divers and surf hunters who work by tone. The Excalibur II 1000 range has the side-mount shaft and chargers most owners add.

Does an open-box Minelab Excalibur II come with a warranty?

Yes, this open-box Excalibur II carries the same Minelab 1-year manufacturer warranty on the control box and coil as a new unit, running from your purchase date. Every open-box detector we list is inspected and function-tested first, and our 30-day return policy applies the same as on new stock. Condition and warranty are stated on each open-box listing because they can differ between units. See all current used and open-box metal detectors.

Is the Minelab Excalibur II worth it in 2026?

For diving and deep surf, yes; nothing else in Minelab's line is rated to 200 feet, and the BBS multi-frequency is still stable in wet salt where single-frequency machines drift. For dry sand and general beach hunting it is heavy and has no display, and an Equinox or Manticore will be lighter, faster and easier to learn. Buy the Excalibur for water; buy something else for everything else.

    Answered by Richard T. · September 2026

What is the difference between the Excalibur II 800 and 1000?

The number is the coil size: the Excalibur II 800 ships with an 8" coil and the 1000 with a 10" coil. The 10" covers more ground per sweep and gets slightly more depth on coins and rings; the 8" is lighter (4.6 lb vs 5.1 lb) and separates targets better in trashy sand. This open-box unit is the 1000. See our Minelab metal detectors for the current lineup.
