    Best for

Highlighted icons show the targets, ground and experience level this detector is built for.

At Serious Detecting, we highly recommend the Quest X10 IDmaxX for its fast, readable target information and genuinely lightweight build, making it a standout choice for detectorists who want a capable machine without a four-figure price tag. Designed for hunters who value quick decisions over endless menus, the X10 runs a single 12 kHz frequency on Quest's CVX Compact VLF platform and reports every target on a 1 to 99 ID scale you can learn in an afternoon. If you are just launching your journey, exploring our comprehensive getting started metal detecting guide will help you get the most from this platform in your first season. This configuration ships without headphones, which keeps the price down and leaves the choice to you: hunt on the built-in speaker, plug in your own wired pair using the included USB Type-C to 3.5 mm adapter, or add Quest WireFree Lite or Pro headphones whenever you are ready.

IDmaxX Performance Across Parks, Fields, and Gold Ground

    Parks and Lawns

Park mode arrives tuned for coin hunting, discriminating out target IDs below 40 at a factory sensitivity of 60, which puts copper and silver currency front and center while the iron and low-conductivity trash stays quiet. The 1 to 99 target ID reads out as a large two-digit number backed by a ten-block ID arc, so you can register a signal at a glance without stopping your swing. Discrimination is adjustable across the full 1 to 99 range, and the gear button lets you add or eliminate individual metal IDs, which is how you silence the one bottle cap value that keeps fooling you at a particular site.

    Fields and Open Ground

Field mode drops discrimination to reject IDs below 20 and runs a faster recovery speed, so the coil resets quickly between targets and small objects stop hiding behind bigger ones. It is the right mode for open pasture and cultivated ground where interference is low and you want the machine reaching for everything. The Blade11 coil covers more ground per swing than the smaller Blade9, and the optional Blade9 can be swapped in when a site turns tight and trashy.

    Gold and Mineralized Ground

Gold mode runs with no discrimination at all and adds an adjustable audio threshold, that constant background hum experienced prospectors listen through to catch the faint break that means a small or deep target. Press and hold the ground balance button and pump the coil to balance out mineralization, and drop sensitivity when hot ground or a salt beach starts producing false positives. Quest notes that adjusting sensitivity to suit the interference does not significantly reduce detection depth, so running the machine quiet is usually the faster route to finds.

Built for Fast Setup, Long Sessions, and Your Choice of Audio

    • Three ways to listen without buying anything you do not want: the built-in speaker works out of the box, the included USB Type-C to 3.5 mm adapter accepts any wired headphones you already own, and Quest WireFree Lite, WireFree Pro, or Underwater headphones pair later from our metal detector headphones range.
    • Six selectable tone profiles match how you like to hunt: C1 gives a single tone for all signals, C2 through C5 progressively split iron from non-ferrous across two, three, four, and five tone groups, and C6 produces a linear tone that rises with signal intensity.
    • Frequency shift beats detector-to-detector interference: hold the ground balance button and tap the volume buttons to nudge the operating frequency off a nearby machine or a noisy power line, which matters on club hunts and organized digs.
    • Collapsible Super3D shaft travels easily: the rod set folds down small enough for a daypack or car trunk, so the X10 comes along on trips where a full-size detector stays home.
    • Charges from anything with a USB-C port: the internal 1000 mAh lithium-polymer battery reaches full charge in roughly four hours from a wall charger, a power bank, a solar charger, or a car adapter, with no disposable batteries to buy.
    • Vibration and lighting extend where and when you hunt: switchable handle vibration confirms targets when the wind is up, and the display backlight plus built-in flashlight keep you working after sunset.
    • Waterproof to 10 feet: the control box and Blade11 coil are sealed for rain, wet grass, creek edges, and shallow water, so weather stops being a reason to stay home.

    Compare within the Family

The X10 IDmaxX sits at the top of Quest's X Series, adding the larger Blade11 coil and a savable Users mode over the X5, while the entry-level X1 IDmaxX is still on the way. All three share the same CVX Compact VLF platform, single 12 kHz frequency, and 1 to 99 target ID scale, so what you are choosing between is coil coverage and how much of your setup you want to save.
