Key features of the Quest XPointer Land
- Four sensitivity levels: hold the SELECT button and briefly press ON/OFF to step through them. One beep is level 1, the least sensitive, and one long beep is level 4, the most sensitive.
- Three alarm modes: sound only, vibration only, or sound with vibration, switched with the SELECT button while the probe is on.
- Faster alerts near the target: the beeping and vibration increase the closer the probe gets to the target.
- Side and tip detection: the side of the probe finds the target area and the pinpoint tip narrows it down.
- LED light and low battery warning: the LED light helps in a dark hole, and it flashes when the 9V battery needs changing.
- 3 inch ruler on the probe to measure finds such as coins, rings and relics.
- Lost alert: the XPointer keeps short beeping when it has detected no metal for 3 minutes, so a pinpointer set down beside the hole is easy to find.
- Anchor loop for the belt clip lanyard.
Where the Quest XPointer Land works, and its limits
The XPointer Land is built for locating coins, jewelry and relics after your main detector has found the target. In our experience it suits land-based detectorists who want a dedicated recovery probe without the complexity of a high-end model. A typical job is searching the loose soil from an old farm-field recovery hole for a small brass button.
Quest's manual says not to put the XPointer under water, so treat it as a land pinpointer. The common mistake we see is confusing a land pinpointer with a dedicated underwater model. For regular underwater detecting, we would look at an underwater detector such as the Quest Scuba Tector II.
Quest notes that the XPointer's pulse technology can make some detectors chatter while the pinpointer is on. The fix is to run the noise cancel function on your detector, or select a channel that does not react to the XPointer.
Getting started with the Quest XPointer Land
Learn the XPointer Land's response distance before you rely on it, and change the sensitivity level when you need to. Quest's manual also asks you to keep the O-ring clean and lightly greased.
