Clean up your gold concentrates faster with this 5 lb magnetic separator pen. Pass the shielded magnet tip over your pan or classified concentrate to lift out black sand and magnetite, then push the plunger to drop the magnetics into a bucket, well away from your gold.

How to Use It

Gold is not magnetic, so the magnet leaves it behind. Work in small passes over wet or dry concentrate, lift the magnet clear of the pan, then press the plunger over a separate container to release the black sand. Repeat until the magnetics are gone and the gold is easy to see.

Will this pick up my gold?

No. Gold isn't magnetic, so only black sand, magnetite and iron get pulled out. Always release the magnetics into a separate container in case a flake gets trapped in a clump. Find more cleanup gear in our prospecting collection.

How do I get the black sand off the magnet?

When should I use a bigger magnet?

The pen is best for pan-sized cleanup. For large batches of concentrate, a heavier tool like the 16 lb magnetic pickup tool clears black sand faster.
