XP Deus 9.5" x 5" Elliptical DD HF Search Coil with Cover, Lower Shaft & Parts

The XP HF Elliptical is a 9.5x5 in (24x13 cm) wireless Double-D search coil for the original XP Deus and the XP ORX. It is XP's high-frequency specialist: three main frequencies of 14, 28 and 74 kHz, each with seven shifts, for 21 settings between 13 and 81 kHz. That range is what finds small gold, hammered silver, thin jewelry and lead shot that an 11 in coil at a lower frequency walks over, and the narrow footprint is what gets you between the nails to do it. The coil has its own lithium battery and electronics, weighs 330 g (11.6 oz), and ships with a coil cover, fixing kit and lower stem. It does not fit the Deus II.

Who the HF Elliptical is for, and who should buy a different coil

Buy this coil if you own a Deus or ORX and hunt iron-heavy relic sites, old homesteads, or gold ground where targets are small and close together. Stay with the X35 or a larger round coil if most of your hunting is open fields and beaches where coverage and depth on coin-sized targets matter more than separation. If you own a Deus II, this coil will not pair with it; the Deus II takes XP's FMF coils, including the HF2 Elliptical in the same 9.5x5 in size, in our Deus II collection.

Key features and what they mean in use

• Three bands, 21 frequencies. 13 to 15.7 kHz for coins and relics, 26 to 31 kHz for small silver and gold jewelry, 68 to 81 kHz for flake gold and micro-targets. The seven shifts in each band let you move off interference without changing bands.
• 9.5x5 in elliptical Double-D. The narrow nose fits between foundation stones, stubble rows and roots, and the DD field separates a button from a nail an inch away better than a round coil of similar area.
• Wireless with its own lithium battery. No coil cable to snag. XP rates it at 13 to 20 hours per charge depending on frequency and TX power. It charges with the XP charging clip, which is not in the box with this coil.
• Waterproof to 6 m (20 ft). The coil itself is sealed; the remote and headphones are not, so wading is fine but diving needs XP's waterproof kit and its own depth limit.
• 330 g (11.6 oz). Light enough that the detector stays nose-light on long sessions, which matters when you are swinging slowly through iron for hours.
• Made in France, 5-year XP warranty, LONGTIME certified.

Compatibility

XP lists this coil for the Deus and the ORX. It is not compatible with the Deus II, which uses a different wireless protocol and the FMF coil family. The HF Elliptical pairs with the Deus or ORX remote like any other XP coil, and the lower stem supplied fits XP's S-telescopic shaft. Where the HF Elliptical works well and where it does not

Iron-heavy homesteads and foundation lines

This is the coil's home. Run the 26 to 31 kHz band for small silver and lead and the 68 to 81 kHz band for tiny buttons and shot, sweep slowly, and let the narrow DD field pull single targets out of nail scatter. On a Deus or ORX, the frequency shifts let you move off a noisy neighbor or power line without leaving the site.

Small gold and flake prospecting

The 68 to 81 kHz band is built for sub-gram gold in residual placer ground, dry washes and bench deposits. The wireless design helps on steep, rocky ground, and the sealed coil handles wet gravel and stream edges. Open fields and beaches

Not the HF Elliptical's job. The small footprint covers ground slowly and gives up depth on coin-sized targets to the 11 in X35. High frequencies also run noisier on wet salt sand. Use the X35 there.

Mineralized ground

High frequencies see mineralization more strongly than low ones. On hot ground, drop to the 13 to 15.7 kHz band or reduce sensitivity; the coil still separates well at the lower band.

How the HF Elliptical differs from XP's other coils for the Deus and ORX

9 in round HF coil: the same three high-frequency bands in a round 22 cm coil; a little more coverage and depth, a little less separation in iron, and the same battery.

X35 coils (9 in, 11 in, 13x11 in): 35 frequencies from 3.7 to 27.7 kHz. The general-purpose choice for coins, relics and beaches; they do not reach the 68 to 81 kHz band.

HF2 Elliptical (Deus II only): the same 9.5x5 in shape for the Deus II, with multi-frequency transmission. Not interchangeable with this coil in either direction.
