It is a selectable single-frequency DD coil with 35 frequencies from 3.7 to 27.7 kHz, its own rechargeable lithium polymer battery, and a waterproof shell rated to 6 m (about 20 ft). It is the coil to buy when you want more depth and ground coverage from an original Deus or ORX than the 11 in coil gives, and you are willing to carry about 4 oz more on the end of the shaft.
Who the XP X35 13 x 11 in coil is for
This coil suits Deus and ORX owners who hunt open ground: plowed fields, pasture, large parks, beaches and relic sites where targets are spread out and deeper than average. XP's own lab figures put it at 41 percent more signal on a 30 mm target at 32 cm than the 9 in X35 coil, which XP translates to roughly 6 to 7 cm (2.5 in) more air depth. In practice the gain is in depth on mid-size and large targets and in how much ground each sweep covers.
It is the wrong coil for tight, trashy sites, small-gold work, or anyone who already finds the Deus heavy at the end of a long day. For those jobs the 11 in X35 coil or the 9 in X35 coil is the better choice, and the 9 in HF coil is the better choice for small gold. All three are in the coils collection. If you own a Deus II, stop here: the X35 coils do not pair with the XP Deus II, which uses XP's FMF coils instead.

What the 35 frequencies do in use
- Five main frequencies, 4, 8, 12, 18 and 28 kHz, each with seven offsets. The offsets are spread wide (3.7 to 4.4 kHz, 7.1 to 8.4 kHz, 10.5 to 12.4 kHz, 15.2 to 17.8 kHz and 23.5 to 27.7 kHz), so you can step away from interference from power lines or another detector without losing performance.
- Low frequencies for large, high-conductivity targets. The 4 and 8 kHz settings favor big coppers, silver and bronze at depth, which is where a 13 x 11 in coil earns its keep.
- High frequencies for small, low-conductivity targets. The 23.5 to 27.7 kHz range sharpens the response on small brass, thin hammered coins and small gold, though the 9 in HF coil goes higher still for that work.
- Transmit power adjustment on every frequency. Turning TX power down steadies the coil in mineralized or wet ground; turning it up buys depth where the ground allows.
- Boost mode on the 3.7 to 4.4 kHz settings. XP added a second, higher transmit power level on the lowest frequency group. It increases depth on large conductive targets where soil conditions permit, at the cost of battery life, which XP says can drop to about 6 hours in Boost.
- Wireless with its own battery. The coil runs on a built-in lithium polymer battery for about 15 hours per charge depending on frequency and power. It charges with the XP charging clip that came with your detector; no clip ships with the coil.
What is in the box
XP supplies the coil with a coil cover, a lower stem and the screw kit (bolt, nut and spacer).
The charging clip is not included because it ships with the detector. The upper and middle stems are not included either, so this coil goes on the shaft you already have.
Which XP detectors the X35 13 x 11 in coil fits
- XP Deus: fits all Deus remote controls and WS4 and WS5 headphones. The Deus must be running version 5 or later software to recognize an X35 coil.
- XP ORX: fits the ORX remote and WSAudio headphones with no update needed.
- Does not fit the XP Deus II, the XP ICON, the XP ICONX or the XP XTREM Hunter. Those detectors use XP's FMF coils and will not pair with an X35 coil.
A second coil on a Deus or ORX also works as a second detector: pair the original coil to the remote and this coil to the wireless headphones and two people can hunt at once from one kit. You will need a second shaft for that, which XP does not supply with the coil. Our XP product compatibility list has the full table.
Where the 13 x 11 in X35 coil works well and where it does not
Open fields, pasture and large parks: this is its home. The wider sweep and the extra depth on mid-size and large targets cover more ground per hour than the 11 in coil.
Beaches and shallow water: the coil is waterproof to about 20 ft /6 m, so it can be submerged. The Deus and ORX remote controls are not waterproof, so for wading the remote stays above the water or in XP's waterproof kit. Keep in mind that a big coil moving through wet salt sand can be a handful at full sensitivity; backing off transmit power helps.
Mineralized ground: the frequency offsets and transmit power control help a lot, but a larger coil always sees more ground than a smaller one, so expect to run it a little quieter than the 9 in coil on hot soil.
Trashy or tight sites: not the coil for the job. A 13 x 11 in footprint cannot separate targets a few inches apart the way the 9 in coil can.
Weight on long sessions: at 1.3 lb it is about 4 oz heavier than the 11 in X35 coil. On the Deus's light shaft that is noticeable but not a dealbreaker; on an ORX with the S-telescopic stem it balances well. If you hunt six-hour days, the 11 in coil is the kinder choice.
How it differs from the 11 in and 9 in X35 coils
All three X35 coils share the same 35 frequencies, the same roughly 15 hour battery life, the same 6 m waterproof rating and the same 5 year warranty. What changes is size and weight. The 9 in coil is the lightest, weighing just 13 ounces, and best for separation in trash and for small targets. The 11 in coil weighs 14 ounces and, in XP's words, gives performance close to the 13 x 11 in coil with a good balance of power and selectivity; for most Deus and ORX owners it is the coil to own first. The 13 x 11 in coil adds depth on larger targets and ground coverage at the cost of about 1.30 lbs and some separation. If you only buy one X35 coil, buy the 11 in. If you already have the 11 in and hunt open ground, this is the one to add. See our search coil selection guide for how coil size changes depth and separation.
