Key features and what they mean in use

• Two stackable classifiers (10 mm and 5 mm): XP designed them to stack for a double sieving action in one pass. Run the 10 mm on top to drop rocks and roots, the 5 mm underneath to pull pebbles, and only sand and fines reach the pan.
• Four panning zones on each pan: large 90 degree riffles for the first clearing step and medium to large gold, mini riffles for finer separation of sand and gold, a sandy zone for fine gold the conventional way, and the snake-skin texture for the final finishing stage. XP states the snake-skin texture holds fine gold more efficiently than a smooth pan.
• 11 in finishing pan: XP positions the 27 cm pan for fine panning and finishing, and as the right size for kids. The 15 in pan is the all-rounder with a wide flat base and large capacity.
• Blue color: XP chose blue as the complementary color to yellow, so flakes stand out against the pan and against black sand.

Compatibility

The two 15 in classifiers sit on the 15 in pan and on each other. They also stack on the XP Batea, so the Premium Kit's classifiers carry over if you add a batea later. The 11 in pan nests inside the 15 in pan for transport. Spare classifiers are in our gold classifiers and sifters collection.

Where it works well and where it does not

In creeks and rivers, the two-stage sift means a bucket of gravel from a bar or a crevice goes through both screens over the 15 in pan in one pass, and the 11 in pan finishes the black sand concentrate. In dry washes, the stacked classifiers break down clumpy material and separate size fractions before you add water. The Premium Kit is not a high-volume tool: for running yards of material you want a sluice or a batea, not a pan.

How the Premium Kit differs from XP's other kits
