Minelab M15 & M8 Search Coil Bundle for Manticore

The Minelab M15 and M8 coil set pairs the largest and smallest Manticore coils. The 15 x 12 inch M15 is for open ground and the 8 x 5.5 inch M8 for high trash areas. Both are Double-D coils, waterproof to 5 m (16 ft), and both come with a protective skidplate.

Who the M15 and M8 set is for

The set suits Manticore owners who already have the M11, the 11 inch round coil supplied with the detector, and want a coil for each end of the range. The M8 handles confined, iron-heavy sites and the M15 covers open ground. Minelab makes four Manticore coils.

How we use the M15 and M8

We fit the M8 when targets are closely spaced or obstacles are common, and the M15 when the ground opens up and targets are widely separated. Keep separate preferred settings for each coil: one sensitivity and Recovery Speed combination rarely works equally well on both. With the larger M15, run Noise Cancel and adjust sensitivity if the detector gets noisy. Turning sensitivity up is rarely the fix.

Buying both coils does not make the M11 redundant, since it is often the best compromise for ordinary detecting. Better target separation does not make the M8 deeper; its advantage is access and control. The M15 is not the answer for every deep target, because in dense iron its larger footprint makes nearby targets harder to isolate.

Minelab M15 15 x 12 inch Double-D

Minelab describes the M15 as the coil for maximum depth and wide ground coverage in open spaces. The elliptical 15 x 12 inch shape covers the widest strip per swing of any Manticore coil. It weighs 650 g (1.43 lb) with its skidplate.

Minelab M8 8 x 5.5 inch Double-D

Minelab describes the M8 as sensitive to small targets, perfect for high trash areas and ideal for difficult terrain. The compact elliptical shape works between roots, rocks and foundations. It weighs 390 g (0.86 lb) with its skidplate.
