The Nokta Pointer is a waterproof pinpointer that runs at 18.2 kHz and carries an IP67 rating, with a 360 degree detection tip, a built-in LED light and audio, vibration or combined alerts. It runs on a single 9V alkaline battery for up to 30 hours and comes with a belt holster and two hard-shell tip covers. It suits detectorists on any brand of detector who want a simple, reliable pinpointer for land, wet sand and shallow water.
Who the Nokta Pointer Is For
The Pointer is a good fit for new and experienced detectorists who hunt parks, yards, fields and beaches and want to cut the time spent finding a target in the hole. It works alongside any metal detector, not only Nokta models, and the 9V battery is easy to find anywhere.
Look at a different pinpointer if you want a rechargeable battery or need to go deeper in water. Nokta's AccuPOINT is rechargeable and rated IP68 to 10 ft (3 m). For scuba diving, the PulseDive is built to work as both a pinpointer and an underwater detector. Compare both in our Nokta pinpointers collection.
Key Features
- 360 degree detection tip: the tip picks up targets from the sides as well as the end, so you can sweep the walls of a hole instead of stabbing at it. Turn it on its side to scan a wider area in a plug or a spoil pile.
- IP67 waterproof: the Pointer handles rain, wet sand, the surf line and shallow streams. Nokta rates it waterproof to 3.3 ft (1 m) with the battery fastener twisted tight, so it is a wading pinpointer, not a diving one.
- Three alert modes: choose audio only, vibration only, or both. Vibration only is useful in wind, surf noise or when you want to keep the hunt quiet.
- Sensitivity control: the plus and minus buttons let you turn sensitivity up for small nuggets and thin jewelry, or down to stop false signals in mineralized soil or salt sand.
- Built-in LED light: lights the hole for dawn, dusk and night hunts or for shaded spots under trees.
- Lost alarm and auto shut-off: after 5 minutes without use, the Pointer sounds an alarm and flashes its LED to help you find it. After 5 more minutes it shuts off to save the battery.
- Coil interference blocking: when the Pointer is switched off, its transmit coil is disconnected, so it will not interfere with your main detector or show up as a target under your coil.

Compatibility and Batteries
The Pointer is a standalone pinpointer, so it works next to any metal detector brand. It takes one standard 9V alkaline battery, rated for up to 30 hours of use. It is not rechargeable, so carry a spare 9V on long trips. The two hard-shell covers slide over the detection tip and can be replaced when they wear.
Where the Nokta Pointer Works Well and Where It Does Not
The Pointer is at home in parks, yards, plowed fields and wet sand, and the IP67 rating means rain and the surf line are no problem. The sensitivity control helps in mineralized soil and salt sand, where an unadjustable pinpointer can chatter. It is not built for diving or for working deeper than wading depth. At 8.3 oz (235 g) with the battery and cover, it is light enough to carry all day in the holster.
How the Nokta Pointer Compares With Other Nokta Pinpointers
- Nokta Pointer: 18.2 kHz, IP67, 9V alkaline battery for up to 30 hours, holster and two tip covers included.
- Nokta AccuPOINT: rechargeable lithium polymer battery for about 25 hours and IP68 waterproofing to 10 ft (3 m), for detectorists who want to stop buying batteries or work deeper water.
- Nokta PulseDive: a pulse induction pinpointer that converts to a scuba detector, for divers. See our Nokta PulseDive collection.
