This is the left-hand version of our leather recovery kit: a Serious Detecting handmade brown leather sheath cut for left-hip carry, with the Quest XPointer Land pinpointer and a Quest Diamond Digger inside it. The XPointer Land is a pulse induction pinpointer on a 9-volt battery; the Diamond Digger is a stainless steel hand digger with one plain edge and one serrated edge. It is for the detectorist who reaches for tools with the left hand and is tired of right-hand sheaths that put the handles facing the wrong way.
Why a left-hand sheath matters
A right-hand sheath worn on the left hip puts the digger handle and pinpointer grip pointing backward, so every draw is a twist. This sheath is cut as a mirror image: worn on the left hip, the digger handle and the pinpointer sit forward where the left hand falls on them naturally. If you carry on the right hip, choose our right-hand version of this same bundle instead, in the Serious Detecting collection.
The sheath hand and the digger serration are two separate choices. Left-handed hunters most often pick the Left serrated blade, but you can order either.
Picking the Serration Side option
Hold the digger point-down in front of you. The Left option puts the saw-tooth edge on the left side of the blade, the Right option on the right. The serrated edge is the one you want facing roots; the plain edge slices turf. Think about which way you naturally push the blade into a plug and put the serrations on that side. Both blades dig the same; this is only about edge placement.
What you get
- Left-hand leather sheath: hand-stitched brown leather, about 14 in long and 4 in wide, with a 3 in belt loop, a 3 in wide pocket for the digger and a 2 in loop for the pinpointer. Each one is cut by hand from natural leather, so color, grain and rivet style vary from piece to piece and from the photos.
- Quest XPointer Land pinpointer: pulse induction at 95 kHz, so it stays quiet in mineralized ground and wet sand instead of falsing on every scrape. Audio and vibration run together and speed up as the tip closes on the target. It has a 3 in ruler on the probe, an LED for dark holes, weighs 4.7 oz (135 g) without the battery, and runs about 8 hours on one 9-volt alkaline. It is splash and heavy-rain resistant, not submersible.
- Quest Diamond Digger: stainless steel blade about 7 in by 2 in, 11.5 in overall, curved to cut a round plug, with a rubber grip and a hand guard.

Where this kit belongs and where it does not
Parks, farm fields, wooded homesites and dry or damp beaches are what this kit is built for. The pinpointer's pulse induction circuit does not care about iron-stained soil or black sand, which is what makes it comfortable at old sites. Keep the pinpointer out of the water; for wading or surf hunting you want a submersible unit from our pinpointers collection, such as the Quest XPointer Scuba Tector. After salt or mud, rinse the steel, wipe the leather and let it air-dry before it goes back on the belt.
Compared with buying the pieces separately
The Quest XPointer Land with Diamond Digger package has the identical pinpointer, digger, woven holster and Cordura pouch, and costs less; it just has no leather and no left-hand option. The Quest pouches are right-or-left neutral, so if clip-on nylon is fine with you, that package is enough. This bundle is for the hunter who wants one leather sheath cut for the left hip. We also sell the left-hand sheath with the Diamond Digger and no pinpointer in the shovels, diggers and picks collection.
