About this open box XP DEUS II RC
Our open box XP DEUS II RC is sold at a discount compared with a new unit. The full XP warranty applies, the same as on a new DEUS II: 5 years on the remote and coil, 2 years on batteries and chargers. The box list above is XP's standard package for this configuration. You can compare every open box and demo detector in our open box collection.
The coil and remote in this XP DEUS II RC
13 x 11 inch coil: the 34 x 28 cm (13 x 11 inch) FMF coil covers the most ground per swing, and on open ground it may have an advantage on some deeper targets under favorable conditions. It is also the heaviest FMF coil at 570 g, and in cluttered ground a smaller coil isolates targets more easily.
DEUS II remote: every setting sits on the remote's screen, and you can mount the remote on the stem or wear it on your belt in the hip-mount case. Audio plays from the remote's own speaker, and any XP DEUS II headset can be paired with it. In our experience someone who changes advanced settings often prefers the full remote, and the remote is also the DEUS II control unit for wading and diving.

About the XP DEUS II
What makes the XP DEUS II interesting is the amount of control it gives an experienced detectorist without giving up the light weight XP is known for: Fast Multi Frequency (FMF), adjustable Reactivity, detailed audio settings and a wireless design. For someone who regularly searches old homesites, heavily hunted parks, farm fields or beaches, those capabilities can be genuinely useful. We would not recommend the DEUS II simply because it is one of XP's most advanced detectors: someone who searches fairly clean parks a few times a year may never need many of its settings. It does not automatically detect deeper than every other detector; what it gives a detectorist who is willing to learn it is an unusually flexible set of tools for difficult targets and changing ground.
FMF processes several frequencies at the same time, which matters because different targets and ground conditions respond differently to different frequencies. On an old farm property with copper coins, small brass buttons, lead and rusty iron, FMF gives a versatile footing without switching frequencies all the time. The DEUS MONO program also runs any of 49 single frequencies from 4 to 45 kHz. For general detecting we would begin with a suitable FMF program, and for a particular target or an interference problem it can be worth trying a single frequency.
XP DEUS II programs and key settings
- Programs: 12 factory programs (General, Sensitive, Sensi FT, Fast, Park, Deep HC, DEUS MONO, Gold Field, Relic, Diving, Beach and Beach Sens) and 12 user slots for your own versions.
- Reactivity (9 levels, 0 to 5): XP's term for how quickly the detector responds to nearby targets. Near an old foundation crowded with nails, a faster setting helps the detector respond more distinctly to closely spaced objects; in a clean farm field, a slower one may help preserve stronger responses from some deeper targets. We would not use the fastest setting everywhere.
- Iron Volume (0 to 10): on a historical site you may want to hear the iron, because it shows where past activity took place, but loud iron all day is tiring. Turning it down reduces the prominence of iron without throwing all of that information away.
- Audio: PWM and SQUARE audio, Multi Tones from 1 to 5 plus Pitch and Full Tones, Audio Response from 0 to 7, a threshold from 0 to 20 and a 4-band equalizer on each audio output. No audio setting automatically identifies coins or jewelry; the value is in learning how targets respond.
- Ground balance, sensitivity and interference: Tracking, Grab or Manual ground balance (Manual in DEUS MONO only), sensitivity from 0 to 99, and a frequency shift and automatic frequency scan. Near power lines we would run the frequency scan first, then set sensitivity for reasonably stable operation.
Where the XP DEUS II works well, and where it does not
Relic hunting, heavily hunted parks, difficult ground and saltwater beaches all suit the DEUS II. Around the remains of an old farmhouse, where a brass button can lie a few inches from a nail, Reactivity, discrimination, iron volume and audio give you different ways to investigate a challenging signal, but the DEUS II cannot reliably see through every nail, and iron masking is still a limitation. See more relic and treasure metal detectors. On an ocean beach, where wet salt sand produces a response of its own, the Beach and Beach Sens programs are designed for those conditions, one of the biggest improvements over the original XP DEUS. Black sand, severe mineralization and electrical interference can still affect performance. See our beach metal detectors.
Wading and diving with the XP DEUS II RC
XP rates the FMF coil IP68 to 20 meters (66 feet). The remote is rated to 20 meters only with its red cap fitted, which XP reserves for underwater use; with the gray cap it is rated to 1 meter. When the coil is submerged, the radio link needs the aerial antenna, so follow XP's instructions rather than assuming the ordinary wireless setup works under water. For underwater audio, XP specifies its BH-01 bone conduction headset, which plugs into the remote and is rated IP68 to 20 meters. See our waterproof metal detectors.
XP DEUS II wireless design and charging
XP's own digital radio in the 2.40 to 2.48 GHz band links the coil, the control unit and XP's wireless headphones, so there is no external coil cable and the detector goes together quickly. The trade-off is separate rechargeable parts: each FMF coil's 700 mAh battery runs 8 to 20 hours depending on program and frequency, so we would check every battery level before a detecting trip. XP's manual warns that opening the detector or changing a battery yourself voids the warranty.
One mistake to avoid with the XP DEUS II
The mistake we warn new owners about is copying advanced settings from an experienced DEUS II user. A Reactivity setting that works well in a video from an old European field can disappoint in a Michigan park, because ground conditions, target types, iron contamination and technique all differ. Start with the factory programs, learn how the detector responds over known targets, then change one setting at a time.
