    Best for

Highlighted icons show the targets, ground and experience level this detector is built for.

The XP DEUS II RC package contains the DEUS II remote control with hip-mount case, XP WS6-ST wireless stereo headphones with control module, the 22.5 cm (9 inch) round FMF coil and the S-Telescopic stem. We recommend the DEUS II to experienced coin, relic, jewelry and beach hunters who want substantial control over how their detector responds. With the remote as master, the WS6-ST works as your stereo headphones; leave the remote at home and the WS6-ST module runs the detector by itself. The 9 inch coil's smaller footprint makes closely spaced targets easier to separate.

The coil, remote and WS6-ST in this XP DEUS II

9 inch coil: the 22.5 cm (9 inch) FMF coil has the smallest detection footprint of XP's 9, 11 and 13 x 11 inch FMF coils, which makes closely spaced targets easier to separate, and at 345 g it is lighter than the 11 inch (470 g) and 13 x 11 inch (570 g) coils.

Remote plus WS6-ST: with the remote as master, the WS6-ST works as your stereo headphones; leave the remote at home and the WS6-ST module runs the detector by itself, with its 64 x 64 pixel screen, USB-C charging and memory for 10 coils. Running the WS6-ST on its own gives a lighter setup. XP quotes 965 g (2.1 lb) with the 9 inch coil and the WS6-ST working with the remote. The remote runs about 15 to 30 hours per charge and the WS6-ST about 15 hours.

XP DEUS II metal detector with 9 inch FMF coil and wireless remote control

    About the XP DEUS II

What makes the XP DEUS II interesting is the amount of control it gives an experienced detectorist without giving up the light weight XP is known for: Fast Multi Frequency (FMF), adjustable Reactivity, detailed audio settings and a wireless design. Those capabilities matter most to experienced detectorists who want substantial control over how their detector responds. For someone who wants XP performance without the DEUS II's complexity, we would recommend the XP ICON or ICONX instead, and for natural gold in relatively manageable ground, the XP ORX with an appropriate HF coil is worth considering.

FMF processes several frequencies at the same time, which matters because different targets and ground conditions respond differently to different frequencies. The DEUS MONO program also runs any of 49 single frequencies from 4 to 45 kHz.

XP DEUS II programs and key settings

    • Programs: 12 factory programs (General, Sensitive, Sensi FT, Fast, Park, Deep HC, DEUS MONO, Gold Field, Relic, Diving, Beach and Beach Sens) and 12 user slots for your own versions.
    • Reactivity (9 levels, 0 to 5): XP's term for how quickly the detector responds to nearby targets. We would not use the fastest setting everywhere.
    • Iron Volume (0 to 10): sets how loud iron signals are. Turning it down reduces the prominence of iron without throwing all of that information away.
    • Audio: PWM and SQUARE audio, Multi Tones from 1 to 5 plus Pitch and Full Tones, Audio Response from 0 to 7, a threshold from 0 to 20 and a 4-band equalizer on each audio output.
    • Ground balance, sensitivity and interference: Tracking, Grab or Manual ground balance (Manual in DEUS MONO only), sensitivity from 0 to 99, and a frequency shift and automatic frequency scan.
    • Where to start: begin with a factory program before changing advanced settings, then learn Reactivity, ground balance, discrimination, Silencer and the difference between PWM and SQUARE audio.

Where the XP DEUS II works well, and where it does not

We would choose the DEUS II for demanding coin and relic hunting when advanced audio, target separation and customization matter, and for saltwater beaches. Picture a nineteenth-century farmhouse where square nails are scattered around an old foundation: we would start with General or Sensitive, then experiment with Reactivity and discrimination while listening carefully for repeatable non-ferrous responses between the iron signals. The DEUS II cannot reliably see through every nail, and iron masking is still a limitation. See more relic and treasure metal detectors. On an ocean beach, where wet salt sand produces a response of its own, the Beach and Beach Sens programs are designed for those conditions. For regular saltwater beach hunting, the DEUS II's FMF is a more suitable platform than the original XP DEUS. Black sand, severe mineralization and electrical interference can still affect performance. See our beach metal detectors.

Water ratings for each part of this XP DEUS II RC

XP rates the FMF coil IP68 to 20 meters (66 feet). The remote is rated to 20 meters only with its red cap fitted, which XP reserves for underwater use; with the gray cap it is rated to 1 meter. When the coil is submerged, the radio link needs the aerial antenna, so follow XP's instructions rather than assuming the ordinary wireless setup works under water. For underwater audio, XP specifies its BH-01 bone conduction headset, which plugs into the remote and is rated IP68 to 20 meters. The WS6-ST is rainproof only, so when you take the remote into the water the WS6-ST stays above it. See our waterproof metal detectors.

XP DEUS II wireless design and charging

XP's own digital radio in the 2.40 to 2.48 GHz band links the coil, the control unit and XP's wireless headphones, so there is no external coil cable and the detector goes together quickly. The trade-off is separate rechargeable parts: each FMF coil's 700 mAh battery runs 8 to 20 hours depending on program and frequency. XP's manual warns that opening the detector or changing a battery yourself voids the warranty.

One mistake to avoid with the XP DEUS II

The mistake we warn new owners about is setting Reactivity and iron filtering too aggressively, then assuming every remaining response is a desirable target. Those adjustments can affect depth and target response.

Is the XP DEUS II RC with WS6-ST fully waterproof?

The XP DEUS II RC with WS6-ST is not fully waterproof: the WS6-ST headphones are rainproof only. XP rates the FMF coil IP68 to 20 meters (66 feet) and the remote to 20 meters only with its red cap fitted (1 meter with the gray cap), and the aerial antenna in the box is needed when the coil is submerged. For diving, XP's BH-01 headset plugs into the remote and is rated to 20 meters. See our waterproof metal detectors.

What is the difference between the XP DEUS II 9 inch and 11 inch FMF coils?

The difference between the XP DEUS II 9 inch and 11 inch FMF coils is footprint and weight, 345 g against 470 g. In our experience the 9 inch in this package makes closely spaced targets easier to investigate on homesites with nails, rocks and foundations, while the 11 inch gives a better balance of coverage on open fields. Neither is universally better. See our metal detector coils.

How many programs does the XP DEUS II have?

The XP DEUS II has 12 factory programs, General, Sensitive, Sensi FT, Fast, Park, Deep HC, DEUS MONO, Gold Field, Relic, Diving, Beach and Beach Sens, plus 12 user slots for your own versions. In our experience it pays to start with a factory program and change one setting at a time. See the XP DEUS II collection.

What makes the XP DEUS II WS6-ST headphones different?

What makes the XP DEUS II WS6-ST headphones different is their control module, with a 64 x 64 pixel screen and its own menus, so they can run the detector on their own. In this package the remote can be master with the WS6-ST as stereo headphones, or you leave the remote at home. The WS6-ST is rainproof only. See our metal detector headphones.
