The XP DEUS II RC package contains the DEUS II remote control with hip-mount case, the 24 x 13 cm (9.5 x 5 inch) HF2 elliptical FMF coil, the S-Telescopic stem, XP WSA-ST wireless stereo headphones and an XP MI-4 pinpointer. We recommend the DEUS II to experienced coin, relic, jewelry and beach hunters who want substantial control over how their detector responds. The MI-4 locates the target once the hole is open. The HF2 elliptical coil runs FMF from 9 to 90 kHz, and its small footprint helps isolate targets in cluttered ground.

The HF2 coil, remote and WSA-ST in this XP DEUS II
HF2 coil: XP's high frequency coil, 24 x 13 cm (9.5 x 5 inches), runs FMF from 9 to 90 kHz and single frequencies up to 120 kHz, against 4 to 45 kHz on the standard FMF coils. Its 2300 mAh battery lasts about 10 hours in multi-frequency and charges on its own cable, about 4 h 30 to 95 percent and 6 h 30 to full. XP's manual describes the HF2 as particularly suitable for small targets in mineralized ground, thanks to its higher working frequencies of up to 90 kHz.
Remote and WSA-ST: the remote runs the detector and keeps every setting on its own screen, and the audio-only WSA-ST stereo headset (72 g, about 15 hours) supports XP's stereo audio features.
What the add-ons in this XP DEUS II HF2 bundle do
XP MI-4 pinpointer: the MI-4 is XP's handheld pinpointer. The detector's non-motion pinpoint narrows the spot from the surface, and the MI-4 locates the target inside the hole once it is open. XP rates the MI-4 waterproof to 6 meters (20 feet), against 20 meters (66 feet) for the DEUS II coil. See our XP pinpointers.

About the XP DEUS II
What makes the XP DEUS II interesting is the amount of control it gives an experienced detectorist without giving up the light weight XP is known for: Fast Multi Frequency (FMF), adjustable Reactivity, detailed audio settings and a wireless design. For someone who wants XP performance without the DEUS II's complexity, we would recommend the XP ICON or ICONX instead, and for natural gold in relatively manageable ground, the XP ORX with an appropriate HF coil is worth considering.
FMF processes several frequencies at the same time, which matters because different targets and ground conditions respond differently to different frequencies. The DEUS MONO program also runs any of 49 single frequencies from 4 to 45 kHz.
XP DEUS II programs and key settings
- Programs: 12 factory programs (General, Sensitive, Sensi FT, Fast, Park, Deep HC, DEUS MONO, Gold Field, Relic, Diving, Beach and Beach Sens) and 12 user slots for your own versions.
- Reactivity (9 levels, 0 to 5): XP's term for how quickly the detector responds to nearby targets. We would not use the fastest setting everywhere. XP's manual recommends 0 to 1 for coins and large targets in ground free of iron, and 3 to 5 for iron-contaminated or mineralized ground.
- Iron Volume (0 to 10): sets how loud iron signals are. Turning it down reduces the prominence of iron without throwing all of that information away.
- Audio: PWM and SQUARE audio, Multi Tones from 1 to 5 plus Pitch and Full Tones, Audio Response from 0 to 7, a threshold from 0 to 20 and a 4-band equalizer on each audio output.
- Ground balance, sensitivity and interference: Tracking, Grab or Manual ground balance (Manual in DEUS MONO only), sensitivity from 0 to 99, and a frequency shift and automatic frequency scan. XP's manual suggests lowering sensitivity in trashy areas or close to power lines and fences, shifting the frequency or running the automatic scan to find the quietest channel when interference is high, and using Salt Sens (1 to 9) rather than general sensitivity on wet sand or in the surf.
- Where to start: begin with a factory program before changing advanced settings, then learn Reactivity, ground balance, discrimination, Silencer and the difference between PWM and SQUARE audio.
Where the XP DEUS II works well, and where it does not
We would choose the DEUS II for demanding coin and relic hunting when advanced audio, target separation and customization matter, and for saltwater beaches. Picture a nineteenth-century farmhouse where square nails are scattered around an old foundation: we would start with General or Sensitive, then experiment with Reactivity and discrimination while listening carefully for repeatable non-ferrous responses between the iron signals. The DEUS II cannot reliably see through every nail, and iron masking is still a limitation: XP's manual notes that at a low Reactivity, iron is detected for longer and can completely hide a ring next to it. See more relic and treasure metal detectors. On an ocean beach, where wet salt sand produces a response of its own, the Beach and Beach Sens programs are designed for those conditions. For regular saltwater beach hunting, the DEUS II's FMF is a more suitable platform than the original XP DEUS. Black sand, severe mineralization and electrical interference can still affect performance; on magnetic ground such as black sand, XP's manual notes that deep targets may be masked. See our beach metal detectors.
Water ratings for each part of this XP DEUS II RC
XP rates the HF2 coil IP68 to 20 meters (66 feet). The remote is rated to 20 meters only with its red cap fitted, which XP reserves for underwater use; with the gray cap it is rated to 1 meter. When the coil is submerged, the radio link needs the aerial antenna, so follow XP's instructions rather than assuming the ordinary wireless setup works under water. For underwater audio, XP specifies its BH-01 bone conduction headset, which plugs into the remote and is rated IP68 to 20 meters. The WSA-ST is rainproof only, so it stays above the water. See our waterproof metal detectors.
XP DEUS II wireless design and charging
XP's own digital radio in the 2.40 to 2.48 GHz band links the coil, the control unit and XP's wireless headphones, so there is no external coil cable and the detector goes together quickly. The trade-off is separate rechargeable parts: the HF2 coil's 2300 mAh battery runs about 10 hours in multi-frequency. XP's manual warns that opening the detector or changing a battery yourself voids the warranty.
One mistake to avoid with the XP DEUS II
The mistake we warn new owners about is setting Reactivity and iron filtering too aggressively, then assuming every remaining response is a desirable target. Those adjustments can affect depth and target response.
