The coil and remote in this XP DEUS II RC
11 inch coil: the 28 cm (11 inch) round FMF coil weighs 470 g (16.6 oz). For comparison, XP's 22.5 cm (9 inch) FMF coil weighs 345 g (12.2 oz) and its 34 x 28 cm (13 x 11 inch) FMF coil 570 g (20.1 oz), the largest and heaviest DEUS II coil.
DEUS II remote: every setting sits on the remote's screen, and you can mount the remote on the stem or wear it on your belt in the hip-mount case. Audio plays from the remote's own speaker, and any XP DEUS II headset can be paired with it.
What the add-ons in this XP DEUS II RC bundle do
XP HF2 coil: XP's high frequency coil, 24 x 13 cm (9.5 x 5 inches), runs FMF from 9 to 90 kHz and single frequencies up to 120 kHz, against 4 to 45 kHz on the 11 inch coil. With the HF2 fitted, the FMF maximum frequency can be set to 29, 53 or 89 kHz. It runs on its own 2300 mAh battery, which charges in about 6 hours 30 minutes on its dedicated cable, and XP rates it IP68 to 20 meters. See our metal detector coils.
XP WSA-ST headphones: the WSA-ST is XP's compact wireless stereo headset (72 g, about 15 hours per charge, about 3 hours to charge), audio only, with XP's Multi-Process stereo feature, which plays two audio channels with different Reactivity settings. The WSA-ST is rainproof, not submersible, so it stays above the water. See our metal detector headphones.
XP MI-6 pinpointer: the MI-6 pairs with the DEUS II remote over the DEUS II's wireless link. The detector's non-motion pinpoint narrows the spot from the surface, and the handheld pinpointer locates the target in the loose soil once the hole is open. XP lists 12 kHz, Pulse or Pitch audio and 3 sensitivity levels on its own, or 50 levels set from the detector once paired, and rates the MI-6 water resistant to 6 meters (20 feet), with its own 2-year warranty. See our XP pinpointers.

About the XP DEUS II
We like the XP DEUS II because it combines XP's Fast Multi Frequency (FMF) simultaneous multi-frequency technology with exceptional light weight, fast target response and extensive audio customization, and its wireless coil, remote and headphone ecosystem is particularly appealing to serious detectorists. We would choose the DEUS II for demanding coin and relic hunting when advanced audio, target separation and customization matter.
FMF processes several frequencies at the same time, which matters because different targets and ground conditions respond differently to different frequencies. The DEUS MONO program also runs any of 49 single frequencies from 4 to 45 kHz.
XP DEUS II programs and key settings
- Programs: 12 factory programs (General, Sensitive, Sensi FT, Fast, Park, Deep HC, DEUS MONO, Gold Field, Relic, Diving, Beach and Beach Sens) and 12 user slots for your own versions. Start with a factory program before changing advanced settings.
- Reactivity (9 levels, 0 to 5): XP's term for how quickly the detector responds to nearby targets. Along with ground balance, discrimination and Silencer, it is one of the settings we would learn first.
- Iron Volume (0 to 10): sets how loud iron responses sound.
- Audio: PWM and SQUARE audio, Multi Tones from 1 to 5 plus Pitch and Full Tones, Audio Response from 0 to 7, a threshold from 0 to 20 and a 4-band equalizer on each audio output. We would learn the difference between PWM and SQUARE audio early on.
- Ground balance, sensitivity and interference: Tracking, Grab or Manual ground balance (Manual in DEUS MONO only), sensitivity from 0 to 99, and a frequency shift and automatic frequency scan.
Where the XP DEUS II works well, and where it does not
Coin, relic, jewelry and beach hunting all suit the DEUS II. Imagine searching a nineteenth-century farmhouse site where square nails are scattered around an old foundation: we would start with General or Sensitive, then experiment with Reactivity and discrimination while listening carefully for repeatable non-ferrous responses between the iron signals. Iron masking is still a limitation: XP's manual notes that at a low Reactivity setting, iron is detected for longer and can completely hide a ring next to it, and it recommends Reactivity 3 to 5 on iron-contaminated or mineralized ground. See more relic and treasure metal detectors. On an ocean beach, where wet salt sand produces a response of its own, the Beach and Beach Sens programs are designed for those conditions, and for regular saltwater beach hunting we would choose the DEUS II over the original XP DEUS because FMF gives it a more suitable platform. On magnetic ground such as black sand, deep targets may be masked, and XP advises reducing sensitivity in trashy areas or close to power lines and fences. See our beach metal detectors.
For someone who wants XP performance without the DEUS II's complexity, we would recommend the XP ICON or XP ICONX. For someone concentrating on natural gold in relatively manageable ground, the XP ORX with an appropriate high-frequency coil is worth considering.
Water ratings for each part of this XP DEUS II RC
XP rates the 11 inch FMF coil and the HF2 IP68 to 20 meters (66 feet). The remote is rated to 20 meters only with its red cap fitted, which XP reserves for underwater use; with the gray cap it is rated to 1 meter. When the coil is submerged, the radio link needs the aerial antenna, so follow XP's instructions rather than assuming the ordinary wireless setup works under water. For underwater audio, XP specifies its BH-01 bone conduction headset, which plugs into the remote and is rated IP68 to 20 meters. The WSA-ST is rainproof only, so it stays above the water. The MI-6 is water resistant to 6 meters (20 feet). See our waterproof metal detectors.
XP DEUS II wireless design and charging
XP's own digital radio in the 2.40 to 2.48 GHz band links the coil, the control unit and XP's wireless headphones, so there is no external coil cable. The coil and the control unit each have their own rechargeable battery: each FMF coil's 700 mAh battery runs 8 to 20 hours depending on program and frequency. XP's manual warns that opening the detector or changing a battery yourself voids the warranty.
One mistake to avoid with the XP DEUS II
The mistake we see most often is setting Reactivity and iron filtering too aggressively, then assuming every remaining response is a desirable target. Those adjustments can affect depth and target response.
