The Nokta LG28 Search Coil Cover (part 17000211) is the factory replacement cover for the 28 cm (11 in) LG28 DD search coil on the original Nokta Legend. It fits over the bottom of the coil and takes the scrapes from rocks, roots, gravel and sand so the coil housing does not. Nokta ships the LG28 coil with a cover already fitted. Buy this one when that cover is worn thin, cracked or lost, or to keep a spare in your kit.
Who the LG28 coil cover is for
This cover is for Nokta Legend owners running the 11 in LG28 coil. It is most useful for people who scrub the coil along the ground on rocky farm fields, gravel paths, old homesites or beaches, where covers wear fastest.
It is the wrong cover for any other coil, even another 11 in one. Nokta makes separate covers for the Legend 2's LD28 coil, the Simplex ULTRA's SX28 coil and the FindX's FX28 coil. If your Legend runs the 12 x 9 in LG30 coil, you need the SC30 & LG30 cover instead. Check the model printed on your coil before ordering.
What the cover does in use
- Takes the wear instead of the coil: Keeping the coil low and close to the ground is good technique, and the cover is the part that wears. A worn cover is cheap to replace. A worn-through coil shell is not.
- Made for the LG28's shape: Nokta lists this cover only for the Legend's LG28, so it matches that coil's 28 cm footprint.
- Removable for cleaning: Pull it off to rinse out sand and grit, then refit it.

Care and limits
A coil cover is not a waterproof seal. The LG28 coil itself is waterproof, but water, sand and fine grit still work their way between the cover and the coil on the beach and in streams. After a wet hunt, pull the cover off, rinse the coil and the cover in fresh water, and let both dry before refitting. Trapped grit grinds against the coil and can cause false signals. Replace the cover once it is worn thin or split, before the coil underneath starts to wear.
