The Quest X1 IDMAXX is the easiest way into real metal detecting: a genuine 12 kHz VLF machine built on Quest's IDMAXX platform, weighing just over 2 lbs with a waterproof 9x5" TurboD coil. Where toy detectors beep at everything and premium machines bury beginners in menus, the X1 gives you a two digit target ID, three search modes, and one button pinpointing in a package simple enough to hand to a kid. The three section shaft even converts to a shorter junior setup, so one detector fits every hunter in the family.
Built for First Finds, Not First Frustrations
The X1 categorizes every metal signal on a conductivity scale from iron up through gold, bronze, and silver, pairing the digital readout with low, middle, and high tones so your ears learn targets as fast as your eyes do. A US quarter or silver coin rings in high and bright; pull tabs and foil sit lower on the scale. Three preset programs keep decisions simple: Coin mode runs very stable with a tight ID range for parks and yards, Jewelry mode opens up sensitivity and recovery speed for gold rings at day's end, and All Metal mode drops discrimination to zero for relic hunting and gold prospecting. Ground balance helps quiet mineralized soil, and the waterproof TurboD coil with its dual windings holds stable readings where basic concentric coils fall apart. The control box shrugs off heavy rain, though the X1 is a land and shoreline machine rather than a diving one, so keep the box above the waterline.
